Taking "Independent" to Press Complaints Commission

On June 22nd Richard Sudan, a blogger at "The Independent" newspaper's online blog, published a piece saying that Israel’s Interior Minister, Eli Yishai, had said “Israel is for the white man”, thus conveying to the readers of his blog the impression that Israel’s Interior Minister is a racist.

The quote was false (there is a whole industry of quote-twisting among the Israel haters). It was the result of an appalling twisting of what Yishai did say.

http://www.jewishpress.com/news/breaking-news/did-haaretz-turn-eli-yisha...

Yishai said:

Most of the people who come here are Muslims who think this country doesn’t belong to us, to the white man. Some of them have said so openly on television

Yishaid was not stating his own view but was putting the view of others, some of whom (he said) had declared this view on TV.

I complained about the misquote to The Independent. They agreed to amend the opening paragraph of the blog posting “so that it contains the full quote”. However they did not include the sentence “Some of them have said so openly on television”. Neither did they change the misleading title of the article, nor the misleading summary of the quote in the closing sentence of the article:

The perception of an emerging ethnic cleansing policy ensuring that Israel remains ‘For the white man’ will evidently continue.

I am therefore taking The Independent to the Press Complaints Commission. I will blog the result here

Advis3r,

I ask you does Britain as a whole get called racist when the far right fire bomb Asian shops/attack synagogues in the UK?

By certain people, yes. Institutionally racist they call Britain, in fact. And you'll note that I didn't call Israel racist, only some high-ranking politicians, such as Interior Minister Eli Yishai and head of the Knesset Education Committee Danny Danon. And let's not forget the lower ranking types, such as Miri Regev, Uri Ariel and Michael Ben-Ari.
Surprisingly, the only one to come out with any kind of respect is Avigdor Lieberman. Perhaps because he remembers what it is like "to be a stranger in Egypt". And that's not something you'll hear from me every day.

Yishai was quoting a third party . The Independent agreed to amend the original version to include the missing sentence . That's already been mentioned ad nauseum and not disputed .
Yishai himself is Sephardi . He is not white .
Is there racism in Israel . Of course there is just as there is here in the Uk and just about everywhere else including the West Bank where selling a property to a Jew risks summary execution . Have you mentioned that ? Do any of the bds / psc ever widen their undoubted humanitarian concerns to anything other than Israel . Of course not! The Syrian regime has murdered 17,000 and counting of its own citizens but not a murmur , nor a protest from our bds friends for the simple reason it does not concern .
Libya , Egypt, Iran ,Irak . An endless litany of failed , despotic murderous regimes which are of no interest to 'humanitarians ' as yourself .
The malign obsession with lsrael alone, is a study in itself . Piece by piece the true motives become readily apparent .
Referring to Choseness is just one of the antisemitic tropes adopted by the psc .
We heard it time and again last night .
Back on topic .
Take a look around you at UK racism . Not as exemplified by state policy but as exhibited by so called 'White flight ' whereby whole suburbs have become ghettoised . Suburbs such as East Ham , Newham , Southall etc .
What is the excuse of the indigenous white population that saw fit to move out in droves .
Certainly not the fact that some 25,000 of them have been murdered by their neighbours through unrelenting war and acts of terror .

Harvey, do you not think that you would increase your readership greatly if you shortened the length of your meandering "comments", and they were less repetitive?

Tell us again about how your PSC counterparts had to call an EGM to expel an anti-Semite, and how 20% voted against.

Mary - Harvey is a taxi driver. He can only talk in drivel, hyperbole, tabloid and ignorance.

This is my favourite bit: 'Take a look around you at UK racism . Not as exemplified by state policy but as exhibited by so called 'White flight ' whereby whole suburbs have become ghettoised . Suburbs such as East Ham , Newham , Southall etc '

and . . . . . Hendon, Mill HIll, Stamford Hill . . . .

As well as being an antisemite you express contempt for a persons means of earning a living . You know nothing about me but your comment tells me all I need to know about you .
Add bigot and illusions of grandeur to the charge of antisemite .
From my recent dealings with the psc , they tend to include a disproportionately large number of Income support claimants who are unable to pay their debts to society when found guilty of breaking the law .
Incidentally , I lose no opportunity to remind those like you of your inherent antisemitic inclinations . That's why I mention the psc EGM and their desperate attempts to rid themselves , unsuccessfully of antisemites and Holocaust deniers .
Oh Dear , naughty me , I just said it again .

Harvey you are off the mark again.
One thing we can be sure of though is this:
the difference between you and me.

You drive for a living.

How utterly despicable that "Suzanna" makes conclusions about a person's intellectual abilities simply from assumptions about how they earn a living.

Despicable and the worst sort of snobbery. And this idiot pretends to be some kind of "human rights" activist!

Except for the human rights of taxi-drivers which can go to hell as far as she is concerned. And of course the human rights of Jews.

What is so risible about your whole attitude is that all you do day in day out is make assumptions about people's integrity, their motives, and their honesty. You denigrate, insult, belittle and then someone does it to one of your Judeofascist chums and listen to your hysterical response

Also I don't think there is any 'assumption' in the matter.

Harvey drives for a living. I, thankfully, do not. And nor will I ever have to.

I am sure there must be an NGO devoted to the human rights of taxi drivers c
