Awful news, the poor Kiwis have really been through the mill over the last year.

According to the Times there are at least 65 fatalities.

It's heart-warming that MDA have responded so quickly, and I will channel my donations via them.

Yes we've seen this before. The Israeli's desperate for some good news stories run half way round the world, pitch their tent, put up their flag, treat a few people and let the world know about it. Then bugger off when the cameras leave.

In the mean time they keep 4 million people under their thumbs in a brutal 40 year occupation.

What a nice bunch the Israeli's are.

That's uncalled for, Zair. When called upon, MDA have also helped across the lines in Gaza and the West Bank.

"Uncalled for"?

That's a bloody understatement.

JC, this is intolerable. Zair turns an expression of sympathy with New Zealand into yet another obsessive attack on ALL Israelis - this is sheer racism. And what kind of sick individual votes down someone expressing compassion for New Zealanders at this time?

Why oh why are you tolerating hatespeech?

Millis - uncalled for? is that the best you can muster?

It is hatespeech.

Amber, unlike some, I don't go in for frothy-mouthed splenetics, so if you don't mind, uncalled for works for me.

zair - to vilify an entire nation, Israel, and all her people - is, at best, bigotry. The fact that the country in question happens to be the Jewish state, is, of course, coincidental, isn't it?

Bigoted scumbag.

"In the mean time they keep 4 million people under their thumbs in a brutal 40 year occupation."

Only a sick antisemite like you can post that lying antisemitic comment here.

"What a nice bunch the Israeli's are."

Ever considered taking literacy lessons?

Yes, they are nice. And you are a sickening worm.

zair - "Israel isn't a race" - coming from the person who claimed Islam was.

Yes, well, antisemites are not known for their intelligence.

simonson - a key difference - I corrected myself, within 10 seconds - you needed it pointing out.

I don't comment often, but couldn't let this pass. I don't know what can be done about Zair, but I think the JC has to step in at times like this and just say enough is enough. There is no point in entering into a discussion - he is not going to change his attitude no matter how relevant or factual the argument for Israel. But I don't read the JC, either in print or online for baseless antisemitic lies or anti-israel propoganda. In fact it makes me pretty sick.

Well said, Amanda.

The JC has become a hatefest for antisemites. Utterly shameful.

Amanda, do you think any of the inmates here are going to change their attitudes, or is it something you expect someone with whom you disagree to do?

To be honest, Joe, I'm struggling to understand why someone who dislikes Israel so much that they have to comment on even a positive news story feels the need to spend most of their day on a pro-Israel newspaper's website. Perhaps you could enlighten me?

No Amber, the key difference is.....

I don't give a shit.

You do.

I mean someone who goes to the trouble of correcting their spelling on a blog site post, when it doesn't in any way affect the communication, really needs to go get themselves some kind of a life.

gotta run bye for now

@jandrsimonson

It's common practice to correct ones' own spelling mistakes on respectable websites - this isn't youtube.

Your attitude here is very unpleasant and frankly bizarre.

From a person who spends all his time making inane and pointless comments here.

"I'm sure Yonithan"

There is no 'Yonithan'.
