Moore to the point...

Brian Moore, the former England rugby hooker, had a very interesting piece in yesterday's Telegraph.
No, his down page piece wasn't about Israel, diaspora Jews or the Middle East peace process. In this instance, it wasn't even about rugby. It was about football, and the cravenness of the Football Association in the face of the alleged corruption at FIFA.

What is interesting is the reaction to Triesman’s candid claims. Alex Horne, the Football Association general secretary, said he would also pass on the information to Fifa’s ethics committee, but added that he regretted Triesman had not made his allegations sooner.
Let’s not forget that it was Horne who, in May 2010, called on the country to unite behind the FA’s bid to host the 2018 Fifa World Cup, saying that it was “. . . important that we can demonstrate to Fifa and the rest of the world at this time that we are serious about our bid for the World Cup 2018” and that “the gossip and the nonsense doesn’t matter.”
This is the latest revisionism of the reality of the FA’s bid - it was prepared to compete under a system it knew or should have known, is corrupt. It was prepared to employ questionable methods, such as employing a private surveillance company and only cried foul when it lost so humiliatingly.
It used important figures in pursuit of its objective, despite the possible, then actual, debasement of this country’s Prime Minister and future King, alleging anyone objecting to this grotesque farce and suborning of the national interest was a traitor.
The FA’s talk of working for change within the system is hollow. It knows; we know that Fifa will not change without insurrection...

There is a lesson here for all those who are craven and who lash out at those who do not agree with their sha, shtill... attitude towards Israel.

Only the threat of, or actual withdrawal from Fifa of Europe’s five leading Associations will provide the necessary agitation for root and branch reform. Their clubs underpin world football and without them it would fall apart.
All this talk of the football family is pointless in the face of Fifa’s rampant excesses and abuses.

And that's why Mick Davis was right to speak out as he did. Keeping schtum is not an option. Silence is acquiescence.

Silence is acquiesence in what - protecting Jewish lives from Arab terrorism? Speak out and criticise Israel so you do not have to feel uncomfortable at a dinner party and in the words of Isi Liebler relating to Mick Davis "indulge in crude public attacks on Israeli leaders and relate to Israel's security requirements in relation to their impact on his image in non-Jewish circles is surely bizarre and utterly unconscionable".
But of course I was forgetting this is the UK where some Jews have no problem speaking out when they object to something Israel has done but keep remarkably quiet and adopt a softly softly approach when Israel is attacked.
Sorry but forgive us if the safety of our children and grandchildren is somewhat more of a concern to us than your comfort levels.

Ha ha Harvey. I don't report to anyone. Totally independent of thought and action. I'm no one's ventriloquist dummy. Still I'd have thought you would find it hard to be with people who think the ultra-nationalist narrative dictating Israel's policies for so long are ruinous to Israel. Still, British Jewry is a "broad church" as it were, and there's even room for those who don't get it that it is in Israel's interests to have a Palestinian state on the West Bank.
Hey, you may even be convinced.

"adviser" it's getting awfully close to in Israel so don't forget to change the alias and the proxy. But any way, we will not stay silent so that Israel can destroy itself.

I have no problem with Mick Davis offering a criticism of Israel. We can debate endlessly about what's good for Israel. What I don't like is his suggestion that Israel should behave in a way to make him socially comfortable in mixed company.

He said the following:
‘I think the government of Israel has to recognize that their actions directly impact on me as a Jew living in London, UK When they do good things, it is good for me; when they do bad things, it is bad for me… I want them to recognize that.’”

Since when is Israel supposed to factor in approval from British intelligencia in its policies? Perhaps Mick Davis should be more restrictive with whom he associates.

millis, it is you who has the sch schtill mentality. By joining in with the antisemites, you wish to prove your worthiness and crave acceptance from those who hate Israel. Good luck to you.

You're right millis - silence is acquiescence. One wonders then why you are silent to the antisemites on these blogs, but endlessly attack those who defend Israel against their hatred.

In addition, Mick Davis' use of the term "apartheid" was not only ill-judged, it was a fop to the haters. Adopting the language of those who wish you harm is utterly stupid.

What a fool.

Jonathamber is back and full of vitriol and hate. Mick Davis was absolutely right to use the term apartheid. If Israel continues along its current ruinous path led by ultra nationalists and other hate mongers, it will cease to be Jewish and Democratic. It will turn either into an apartheid state or it will become hamas' wet dream.

I am sure jonathamber will entertain us on Sunday with his interventions against Mick Davis and other supporters of a two-state solutions.
