On the festival of cheese, a vegetarian's perspective

By Jennifer Lipman, June 1, 2011

This time next week, we will be celebrating the festival of Shavuot, the point in the Jewish calendar when we mark the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai.

Obviously, this is a time of spiritual significance, and the week before should be one of Jewish learning and examination.

France's Jewish problem: Strauss-Kahn

By Jennifer Lipman, May 20, 2011

The Daily Beast offers an interesting follow-up piece to Bernard-Henri Lévy's bizarre defence of the disgraced DSK.

The women-only Bin Laden White House pic

By Jennifer Lipman, May 17, 2011

By now, everyone's seen that photoshopped White House picture - you know, the one where Hillary Clinton mysteriously disappeared from view.

'Pinkwashing': Israeli pride and the peace process

By Jennifer Lipman, May 13, 2011

If I asked whether the Obama administration was using its record on healthcare reform to excuse its policy on Syria, what would you think?

Cheryl Cole's Jewish hair

By Jennifer Lipman, May 10, 2011

Of all the showbiz stars about, Cheryl Cole isn't usually one mistaken for being Jewish.

But according to OK magazine, the X Factor presenter has got one kosher credential.

Bin Laden's death shouldn't be a kodak moment

By Jennifer Lipman, May 6, 2011

A couple of months ago I opened an email that I later wished I hadn't. It contained photographs, grisly, explicit photographs of the victims of the Itamar massacre.

Yuli Edelstein, Israel's Minister of Information explained the decision thus: "our goal in sending out the photos was clear: to show that this attack crossed all lines."

Julian Assange finds another Jewish conspiracy

By Jennifer Lipman, May 3, 2011

Never knowingly under-paranoid, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has found a new Jewish bogeyman.

Following on from his "Jewish conspiracy at the Guardian out to get me" meltdown, I give you Assange v Zuckerberg.

As told to Russia Today, Assange thinks Facebook is "the most appalling spying machine that has ever been invented".

Help the JC mark Israel's 63rd birthday

By Jennifer Lipman, April 18, 2011

What's your favourite thing about Israel?

To mark Israel's 63rd birthday, we want you to send in video clips and photos telling us what it is about Israel that you love.

Whether it's the diverse geography, the view of the Kotel in Jerusalem, the Israeli drivers or the taste of an Iced Aroma, let us know and we'll put them together into a video for the world to see.

Bieber, Bibi, Barack and Bill

By Jennifer Lipman, April 15, 2011

Remember when Bill Clinton hosted Charlotte Church at the White House? Did you know Mariah Carey recently entertained the Obamas for Christmas? Or that before he became Prime Minister David Cameron dined with Simon Cowell?

What about the Alternative Vote campaign (both yes and no) at the moment – both sides of which are a veritable who's who of showbiz supporters?

Don't stop leaning: Glee's Pesach connection

By Jennifer Lipman, April 13, 2011

For years, we had Ross and Monica Geller, then Josh Lyman and Toby Ziegler and of course the Sandy and Seth Cohen double act. But in recent years, there have been very few.

Judge Goldstone and the small print

By Jennifer Lipman, April 6, 2011

For some, Judge Goldstone’s bizarre about-turn on his findings on Operation Cast Lead has vindicated Israel and wiped the slate clean.

Pick and choose journalism and the Fogel murders

By Jennifer Lipman, March 25, 2011

If you have a few spare hours, actually, make that days, you could fill them by reading the huge number of comments below MP Louise Bagshawe’s piece on the Fogel family massacre in

On board the 74 bus in Jerusalem, tomorrow

By Jennifer Lipman, March 23, 2011

Just over five years ago, I was in Tel Aviv when a suicide bomber struck at the city’s old central bus station.

In the attack, about fifteen people were injured; a few months later, during the festival of Passover, 11 people were killed and some 60 wounded when another terrorist struck a schwarma restaurant crowded with people having lunch.

Cool Rollings

By Jennifer Lipman, March 15, 2011

When it comes to films about sports and the triumph of the underdog, Cool Runnings has to be one of the top choices. The unlikely (but not untrue) story of the Jamaican bob sleigh team’s at the 1988 winter Olympics, directed by Jon Turteltaub, made for a comedy classic and a somewhat heartwarming tale.

'It feels like we are all still shaking': message from Japan

By Jennifer Lipman, March 14, 2011

In the wake of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, those with friends and family in the country understandably rushed to contact them and check if they had been affected.

One couple, who have visited Japan on several occasions, contacted Tokyo-based Rabbi Antonio Di Gesù. They kindly offered to share his response with JC readers.

A fashion statement at the Galliano presentation

By Jennifer Lipman, March 7, 2011

Last week, Natalie Portman was my heroine. Not because she won the Oscar (although Mazel Tov Nats, sure the family is schlepping nachas) or because she looked radiant in that dress despite one helluva baby bump, but because she did what every public figure could do and so often doesn't.

The Olympics: It is the Zionists wot dunnit

By Jennifer Lipman, March 3, 2011

OK, look I'll admit it. The rumours are true. The London Olympics really are one big fat Zionist conspiracy.

The Jews have infiltrated the games - we are going to win all the medals, get all the best seats and make loadsa cash from the sponsorship.

How do I know?

Those darn Jews...

By Jennifer Lipman, March 2, 2011

What a week it has been - accusations flying all over the shop about anti-Jewish comments by everyone from Hollywood celebrities to fashionistas and internet renagades.

Galliano: It is sad, but...

By Jennifer Lipman, February 28, 2011

Remember when those charges against Roman Polanski were dredged up after all those years?

All of a sudden, hordes of ordinarily very rational stars were tripping over themselves to defend him. Never mind that he was an alleged rapist, he was so talented, so creative, they gushed.

Oscars 2011 live

By Jennifer Lipman, February 27, 2011

So they say that the Jews control Hollywood.
