Not strange at all - basically the view of most Israelis who have lived under threat of anihilation for all of their lifetimes. That's basically the result of living in a neighbourhood for sixty three years and being constantly told by your neighbours that "we want you dead" so better move out.
Living in "peaceful" England you obviously have little or no concept of what living in the Middle East for the Jewish people is all about - they wanted us dead before settlements ever existed so don't let them make believe that if there were no settlements there would be peace. There will so far as they are concerned only be peace when Israel has been dismantled and the last Jew has left the Middle East or submitted unconditionally to dhimmitude. One day you may actually believe what they say rather than put it down to rhetoric. That mistake was made in 1938 and look what happened.
By the way this is what the "moderate" Rashid Ghannouchi leader of the victorious Tunisian Islamic Party in last week's elections had to say, several months ago:
“I bring glad tidings that the Arab region will get rid of the germ of Israel. Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, leader of the Hamas movement, once said that Israel would disappear before 2027. That date may be too far off; Israel may disappear before that.”
