More mosques attacked

* hard-liners have attacked half a dozen shrines belonging to a Muslim sect they regard as practicing 'Black magic'.

The targets were Sufis, a mystical order which puts faith in contemplation, chanting, and is one of the more 'liberal' wings of Islamic belief.

They also have a tradition of praying over tombs of saints and asking for blessings. They are attacked in many countries and the Sufis of ** are in particular danger with dozens murdered this year.

Thing is *= Islamic and **=Pakistan but don't expect any hand-wringing - the Jews allegedly didn't do it so apparently it's quite ok.

Same fate for the Ahmadis, a somewhat reformed, ie non-violent, sect of Islam who are not recognised by most of the Islamic world as Muslims.
And in Iraq, the 1000s of murders of Sunnis by Shias and vice-versa hardly makes the papers these days. They murder each other at funerals, let alone blowing up each other's mosques.
