I called my good friend Bibi about this and he thinks I'm nuts.

The only people I know who call the Voice of Israel government radio are those who want to besmirch the country, as if it has a government-controlled radio like the former USSR, Iran or other authoritarian states. Says an awful lot about the poster of this blog.

Says it all really the only thing that gets these people upset is the misplacement of the word "government" the fact that one of the so-called troops was a former terrorist or that over 40 shots were fired at an unarmed civilian car does not overly concern them presumably because the occupants were Jews.

Yep Joe's nobody's fool, but I could be wrong. But just for argument's sake are you not upset to learn that this was an unprovoked attack on a civilian car, whether or not they should have been there without prior co-ordination?

Was it unprovoked, "advis3r"? Goodness, next time some tries to run an Israeli checkpoint I'm sure the " unprovoked" excuse will be used. These people have been led to believe they are above the law. They entered amilitary zone without coordination as Israeli law requires. They ran a checkpoint. Warning shots were fired first as the PA police had been taught by the Israelis. And only after were lethal shots fired. And how were the PA police supposed to knows the passengers therein were unarmed? X-ray vision perhaps? After all, settlers, even if the PA police could see them in their speeding cars, are not averse to going equipped.
And for all the PA police knew, they could have been hamasniks on their way to attack settlers but dressed as them. It's happened before.
So that's the danger of breaking the law and not liaising with the authorities before you enter a military zone.

I do not know what report you read Millis but the facts are not as you say. I would preface what I have to say by saying that it was foolhardy in the extreme to attempt to enter what is now a closed area I have said this before.
However first under the Oslo accords the Palestinians agreed to grant full access to jewish Holy Sites in areas under their control and this is specifically one of them.
Secondly this is only a closed area due to the fact that the Prime Minister at the time one Ehud Barak surrendered the Tomb to a hostile Arab mob and allowed an Israeli soldier to bleed to death in the process.
Having said that the facts are that the cars were returning after prayer. The Arabs troops were sleeping in their vehicle on hearing the car one of them woke up and commenced firing waking his two colleagues one of whom also commenced firing. They fired more than forty bullets into the car in which Mr Livnat was killed.
I do not deny that this happens at Israeli manned checkpoints but Israel has to contend with Arabs going armed with the intent to kill even when they are entering Israel on humanitarian grounds. So far as I am aware there are no reported incidents of Jews going up to Palestinian checkpoints and blowing themselves up or shooting/stabbing the nearest IDF soldier or passerby. Therefore there is no justification to say that firing 40 shots into an Israeli civilian car was a reasonable response which you appear to claim.

It was the initial army report, not the one doctored for political experience. They broke the law, because they thought they were above it. It is tragic that a young man paid with his life because of this attitude, "advis3r".

Also, they were Breslavers. And what kind of kippah do Breslavers wear? That's right, as you might have seen in pictures of them, they were a large, white knitted job, very similar to those skullcaps worn by Islamic fundamentalists.
