UNESCO has been spared from itself, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation will not, after all, be led by Egyptian Culture Minister Farouk Hosni, who said who he would burn any Israeli books he saw.
But it was a close run thing. Former Bulgarian foreign minister Irina Gueorguieva Bokova,
won the post on the fifth round of voting by 31 to 27.
