UK Parliament: "Only Righteous Jews Allowed In"

Tonight in the UK Parliament free speech died.

Tonight three Arab Knesset members (Haneen Zoubi, Dr Jamal Zahalka and Talab Al-Sana) spoke in a room in the Parliament, organised by Middle East Monitor.

The meeting was hosted by Jeremy Corbyn MP.

I had always thought that meetings in Parliament were open to all, subject only to health and safety considerations. It's a public building maintained by our taxes. And organisers of meetings pay no rent. Surely it is not unreasonable to expect that anyone can attend these meetings subject only to health and safety considerations.

The organisers tonight asked for advance registration. I tried to register on 11 July, as soon as I found out about the meeting but I got this response: "Unfortunately, we have neared full capacity and therefore will not be able to reserve any more seats." Richard Millett did not even get the courtesy of a response. So we went along anyway - only to be barred from entering. Jeremy Corbyn MP could have asked for us to be let in but he just looked straight through me when I asked him - despite knowing perfectly well who I am.

One man going in told me "you would not allow me (a Muslim) into a Zionist meeting so why should we let you in to a Muslim meeting?" There is so much wrong with this it is hard to know where to start. First - there are plenty of Muslims at ZF meetings including some of the speakers. Second - it was not a 'Muslim meeting'. It seems that the House of Commons has become part of the Caliphate in the eyes of some.

It seems that Mearsheimer's recent Nazi-style distinction between 'righteous Jews' and 'new Afrikaaners' is - for Middle East Monitor - a reality.

UPDATE: Richard Millett has blogged on this. He rightly observes that if Corbyn and his lefty and Islamist cronies want to hold a private meeting, then they should do it in someone's house or hire a room - and not abuse his Parliamentary privileges.

"despite [that should read 'because of'] knowing perfectly well who I am"

Next time, Jonathan, go in a burkha!

But, seriously, this is an encroachment on parliamentary democracy.

Jonathan

I totally agree with you and Richard - this should be taken to the Speaker, surely. This is a gross abuse of the House of Commons and free speech.

These same people don;t think that shouting down Danny Ayalon or other Israeli speakers is a Zionist only meeting.

These were Israeli members of parliament who have the right to speak out in Israel and in the UK. How many Jewish 'law makers' are there in the Arab world?

The hyprocrisy of the whole event makes me want to puke.

According to Richard's blog our old pal Tom Eisner was among the "greeting party"...

I went to the launch of José Aznar's Friends of Israel Initiative at the house of commons and there were plenty of "antis" there, including a Syrian man who demanded apologies for Israel's treatment of Syrian Jews, bizarrely enough - but he was treated with accord and respect even though he was clearly bonkers.

Saying that Zionist meetings are exclusionary is absolute nonsense.

Yvetta: He's also posting on the Times these days. Apparently he gets a better reception to his dodgy worldview there.

I'm depressed. Think I'll eat some chocolate.

I was at the meeting and it was alleged that the last time there was a similar meeting in Parliament you Mr. Hofmann were disruptive and even interrupted a survivor from Auschwitz. No surprise that you they didn't want yo there. Apart from anything else it was much more important to hear from the members of the Israeli Knesset.

What was so utterly shocking was to hear about how the Palestinian Israeli citizens are discriminated against because they are not Jewish.

Haneen Zoubi told us how spending on Palestinian Israeli education is only a third of that lavished on Jewish Israelis. It is forbidden for children to be taught the truth about the Nakba when 700,000 Palestinians were forced out of their land. She also explained that 100,000 Israeli Palestinians lived in the Negev and the authorities refuse to give them adequate water because they were hoping that they would leave the land. The most depressing fact was that they were forbidden to marry Palestinians from the West Bank. if they do they have to leave and lose their right to ever come back. Falling in love is apparently only allowed for Jewish Israelis!

When questioned from the floor about comparing Israel with Apartheid South Africa she said that the black population were never thrown out of their land unlike the Palestinians in 1948. What she found really upsetting was the way that Israel manipulates the truth.

So Mr. Hofmann you did miss out on a very special evening.

They sound like traitors to me. Imagine a British MP going around the world during a time of war and slagging off Britain like that! We'd have them locked up!

It's not like there's no shortage of human rights groups in Israel campaigning about this sort of stuff is it? Why the need to air their dirty laundry in foreign countries? Presumably the aim is to reduce Britain's support for Israel.

No wonder one of them had their parliamentary privileges revoked. I hope they lose their seats next election.

@clevenson

How typical of a bigot to not check out the facts but believe what suits their prejudice.

I interrupted an antisemite.

Are you arguing that a survivor cannot be an antisemite?

If so - do you also believe Harold Shipman did not murder old people?

Guess you'd rather live in North Korea or Riyadh where the security services control who demonstrates on the streets.

Do you need directions to the airport?
