A group of members and volunteers from Jewish Care's Brenner Community Centre met Israeli performer Topol after his performance in the musical Gigi at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. The meeting was the idea of Frank Crocker, programme manager of the centre in Stamford Hill.
Frank Crocker said: "As soon I knew Topol was going to be in the show I thought it would be a real treat for everyone to meet him. I have a friend who works for the New Shakespeare Theatre Company so I asked if she could pull some strings."
"I'm not in bad shape for a man of 72" said Topol who had climbed over three rows of seats to greet centre member Shirley Veasey, who is registered blind.
Mrs Veasey said: "I had no idea that I was going to meet Topol - he shook my hand warmly and thanked me for coming to see the show. I was thrilled - it was a wonderful day and the show was marvellous."
