Three chheers for Israels right

Powerful article in Haaretz 29/10/10 by Carlo Strenger which pretty well sums it all up. Obviously better to look it up but for those who can't be bothered a few brief exerts

" At this point the western world is looking at Israel with a complete lack of understanding. Is it just a banana Republic, something like a failed state ? Or is it just behaving like a spoiled child as Tom Friedman lately argued ?Or is it an ethnocracy that, unsuccessfully, tries to hide ethnic cleansing and colonial ambitions behind protestations that it is under existenial threat ?

Israel , in turn feels misunderstood.........why doesnt the world understand us ?.........The answer is quite simple. It is the great achievement of the Israeli right to have made Israels fears utterly unbeleivable to the world.

Israels right is about to score a further victory......Israel may soon cease to be a democracy and finally be a jewish state without excuses.

Democracy after all is a Helenistic inventionand very un jewish. So why not just drop the fiction of " Jewish and Democratic? "

I sent a whole bunch of this "stephenb"s posts to a psychologist fried, saying only that they were written by a Catholic who insists on infesting a Jewish blog site.

After about a week he said that it looks as if the writer is a Catholic priest who obsessively molests little boys in true priestly Catholic fashion, and handles his internal conflicts psychologically by pestering Jews whom he considers inferior to him, thus assuaging his own guilt.

A less likely alternative, he said, was that said writer himself was molested as a child.

Tom Friedman makes an excellent point out of his pain at the way Israel is going. AS Dov Weissglass points out on Ynet,

One NYT reader responded with a letter charging that Israel is not only acting like a spoiled child, but one who ran away from home yet keeps using the family’s credit card

Personally I'd rather have the world misunderstand us rather than have their pity when six million perished. Unfortunately the left believes that as long as we make nice everyone will love us - we tried to do that through two millenia of dispersal and look what it got us (inquisition, progroms etc.). It is indicative of Haaretz's agenda and the facsism of the left that there is not one substantive post criticising the Strenger op-ed on its website - one could say prety amazing given the line he is peddling that not one post from a "far-rightist".

Haaretz?
What credibility, most Israel's treat this with the contempt any leftist rag deserves, in the same way The Guardian is considered by most normal Brit's.
That is not to be taken seriously.

Who is Carlo Strenger? Surely his grammar and spelling is not as bad as stephenb transcribes?

Avraham, you seem to have a thing about molestation. Is there something you'd like to share, to get off your chest? Maybe the time's right for you to go to the authorities for some help. It's not good to let these things fester.

Avraham, so Anthony made a fool out of you and you suffered long ago. That's no reason to be abusive. You really need to get yourself sorted out. It's such a shame that you don't.

I know, Avraham, Anthony really did you up like a kipper when he was plain old Blacklisted Dictator or some other alias. But why take your pent-up frustrations out on others just cause they too choose to be anonymous? Please, for your own well-being, go and get yourself sorted out.

Funny - I too sent a whole bunch of this stephenb's posts to a psychologist fried, saying only that they were written by a Catholic who insists on infesting a Jewish blog site.

The psychologist friend reported back to me that he is far more interested in why a newpaper calling itself the "Jewish Chronicle" would tolerate such nakedly antisemtic posts on its website blogs, and told me that there's enough psychological material attached to that question for an entire conference of shrinks.

I think t'sam is on his high horse because we used the term "Catholic" instead of "Jew-baiting Catholic", Avraham. He is implying we are religious bigots which of course we're not. We object to an antisemite being given free rein on these blogs.
