The world's first peaceful flotilla of terror

Well it wasn't long before the anti Israel brigade flexed their muscles and went into hysterical overdrive. Last night the Israeli navy intercepted an aid flotilla heading towards the Gaza Strip, killing a number of those on board. Already the deaths are being described as a 'massacre' and a 'disproportionate' response to provocation. The death of 16 people (that figure is disputed) is tragic and tragically unnecessary - but then the pro Hamas activists knew this all along.

The fact is that Israel clearly informed the flotilla's organisers that they could not enter the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing blockade. They were also told that the ships could enter the Israeli port of Ashdod so that the cargoes could be searched and the aid delivered to Gaza. This despite the fact that Israel regularly delivers large consignments of humanitarian aid to Gaza, even though the government in power there is committed to the destruction of the Jewish state. Furthermore, the Palestinian activists knew their ships would be boarded if they refused to head to Ashdod or turn back.

The Israeli commandos only boarded the ships when the flotilla's organisers declared they were heading for 'Gaza'. The Israelis further say that when the commandos came on board, they came under sustained attack from protestors wielding a variety of weapons, including knives, clubs and axes. This was, in other words, a violent confrontation in the making, not just a tiny provocation. Many of the injured have been airlifted to Israeli hospitals where they are now receiving treatment.

These appear to be the most salient facts but just wait for the libels to start flying. Expect Mr Cameron and Hague to use the word 'disproportionate' at least once today. They won't be able to help themselves.

The fortilla was in international waters when it was attacked. And the claims made by Israel of 'knives and guns' are merely speculations and incredibly unlikely. While, we know the Israeli forces were armed

if both ibrows an tomeisner2 had bothered to watch Al-Jazeera they will have seen the news as it was reported from their side!
As the Israeli commando's descended on ropes from the helipcopters they were attacked - the Al Jazeera video clearly show this, the soldiers were attacked with live rounds, knives and clubs, they therefore had NO alternative but to return fire. In the ensuing chaos yes, some of the 600 or so, Hamas supporters and activists have been killed, 19 killed and 6 Israeli soldiers injured.
Earlier in the week Israel had offered the organisation that they could off-load the cargo in Ashdod, and Egypt had also offered the same, that the cargo could be off-loaded in El-Arish.
But NO, this was NOT a humanitarian exercise as 100 trucks per day with 15,000 tons of aid go into Gaza daily from Israel, it was a politically motivated PR stunt organised by the Turkish IHH with various other trendy-lefty, Guardianesque groups who support Hamas attempting to "run the blockade".
They were warned NOT to do this and by attacking the Israeli soldiers have only brought this chaos on themselves.
So, ibrows and tomeisner2 you really must crawl back under your stones and go away, your self-hating anti-semitism is NOT wanted on the Jewish Chronicle web site.

The flotilla ran the blockade, and unfortunately got what was coming to it. Had it obeyed the Israeli interceptors' command to come-to, instead of defying them, it would now be at its destination (providing, of course, that there were no armaments intended for Hamas concealed in its cargo). It in effect tried to lynch Israel's boarding party, lashing out with axes and other weaponry. Israel's commandos then had the temerity to defend themselves.
Jeremy, don't let Tom rile you, btw. We are well used to his perverse comments.
