The unpalatable (for some) truth

Jeff Barak, weho I believe used to be of this parish, has written an excellent piece on the growing anti-Arab racism in Israel, praising the excellent efforts by the UK Task Force -- a group which encompasses the newly-moderate Zionist Federation, the New Israel Fund and the Abraham Foundation.
As Barak points out:

[But] Our leaders have turned a blind eye to this problem. It’s not hard to imagine Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu making an impassioned speech about anti-Semitism in Europe should, say, a leading bishop instruct his flock from the pulpit not to rent out properties to Jewish tenants.

And yet, when Safed’s Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu issued a halachic ruling last month prohibiting Jews from renting homes to Arabs in the center of the town, there was no condemnation from any senior figure.

Eliyahu, who let us not forget is employed by the state, has form on this issue. He was charged four-and-a-half years ago with making racist remarks against Arabs, but the charges were dropped after he promised to retract them. Puzzlingly, there has been no move on the part of the legal authorities to reinstate these charges after his recent outburst and Eliyahu continues to bring home a healthy salary each month from the state coffers.

Did Mr Barak speak out on this subject when he was editor-chief of the Jerusalem Post? I consider that this misleading and hypocritical op-ed was written in an endeavour to portray Israel as a melting pot (somewhat like the US) but it is the Jews that are preventing integration like some whites only groups in the UK want to prevent intergration with the Asian and Black communities - it is no such thing. The separate religious communities in Israel country do not integrate mainly for religious reasons and fear of inter-marriage hence the Rabbi's dictum. A Christian Arab attempting to go out with a Muslim Arab girl is likely to find himself severly beaten or worse killed the girl will likely as not be a honour killing victim. As a general rule therefore Jews stick to Jewish areas and Arab stick to Arab areas this is not through racism but because the both the Jews and the Arabs believe in a separate existence. Be aware also that the funds for purchasing property by Arabs in Israel is provided by outside sources who are by stealth trying to do what they could not do by war. Also be aware that Jews are prevented from living within Arab communities because the Arabs do not want them - Mr Abbas made this abundantly clear when he indicated that he wanted a "Palestine" free of Jews.

"Also be aware that Jews are prevented from living within Arab communities because the Arabs do not want them"

- that, my friend, is a colossal understatement! A Jewsh driver who by mistakes strays into an Arab-populated area is lucky to escape with his life. And some didn't. Remember the soldier thrown out of a 2nd floor window, followed by the "thrower" standing at the window displaying his bloodied hands?

But then telegramsam's wages are payed by Arabs, so you can't expect him to tell anything near the truth.

Although I don't condone racism or discrimination of any kind it should be pointed out that when Jews (religious or otherwise) rent appartments in the predomiantly Arab areas of Jaffa it is reported as colonisation and some sort of ploy to push out the Arabs, and not reported as bigotry or racism by Arabs.

Also, @advis3r, I'm no apologist for Abbas, but I've been following a long conversation where someone claims he wants a judenrein Palestine but no-one can find a specific reference. If you can find one, I'd be very interested in it.

Truth? Spammo wouldn't recognise the truth if it bit him on his sorry ass.

No other country in the history of the world has been as tolerant as Israel towards its genocidal, mega-racist enemies.

@Ray

"I will never allow a single Israeli to live among us on Palestinian land,” Abbas declared.

and

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is standing firm in his refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish State

and

"I will never agree that there be Jewish soldiers in NATO, and I will never agree that there will be a single Israeli among us on Palestinian soil."

There's plenty more

Dear Sam.

I have been a reader of the JC website and blogs page for a long time now. After reading comments posted on other people's blog, I finally decided to register an account.

However, i have really only registered for one reason and it is to say the following. As a Jew that reads a website (theJC) that is predominantly focused towards Jewish people, I find your comments and 'blogs' highly offensive.

I really think you need to recognise the kind of audience that will read these blogs. I understand that Israel is not perfect nor is it exempt from criticism. However, i do believe there is a line you should not cross when speaking about the only country in the world that guarantees the rights of jewish people world wide, and I think you cross that line far too often and you need to tone down your rhetoric.

The subject of Israel on the JC, unlike papers such as the Guardian and Independant is a sensitve one and I think you should take this into consideration.

Thank you

Well said Robert
Your comments echo those of many and the thoughts of many others who read these blogs but do not bother to comment.

Israel is far more tolerant towards Muslims than the UK or France. Evidence of this:

- The lack of an equivalent to the "English Defence League" in spite of far greater provocation
- The lack of calls for a "burkha" ban or anything similar

Matt's obviously not heard of the National Union Party, Shas, Yisrael Beiteinu, the Kahanist breakaways-that's 30 seats in the Knesset between them. How many seats in Parliament does the EDL/BNP have?

Robert S., welcome!

He knows exactly what he is doing. He's no different from someone who's failed in life and vents his anger on the road, not caring who he hits.

Fortunately he isn't sharp enough to build a believable web of lies, and there aren't that many readers here in the first place, so he isn't doing any damage - except for providing quotes for anti-Semites, who can spew forth his bile and claim "but I read it in the Jewish Chronicle".

As a member of my shul once pointed out, "in G-d's zoo there are all sorts of types ..."

errr no t'sam/spam/sham, i have never used that expression.

"glove puppets" is a term used by you and
moshe tsarfati2

in other words you are (probably) one and the same

**---------**
For your information, these are the aims of Yisrael Beitenu

Which of these do you have a problem with?

1)Bringing the Zionist Dream to Life
Since before the State declared independence, not a day has passed on which we have not had to fight for our natural and historic right to live in it freely, with economic and political security to fulfill the Zionist dream. We stand here today, proud of our accomplishments as a self-governed state, a dedicated Jewish Nation, unwilling to forego that dream.
The Yisrael Beytenu party, which was founded by Avigdor Lieberman in 1999 as a national movement with the clear vision to follow in the brave path of Zev Jabotinsky, fulfills the three cardinal principles of Zionism: Aliyah (immigration), settlement, and defense of our homeland. Therefore, our lists for the 15th and 16th Knessets featured personalities of the Aliyah, settlement and security movements. From the day it was founded, Yisrael Beytenu raised the flag of the Jewish identity of the State of Israel. Yisrael Beytenu is the home for a secure and Jewish Israel.

2)Expanding the Infrastructure
In 2001, when Sharon’s first government was established, Avigdor Lieberman was appointed as the National Infrastructure Minister, continuing the job of Ariel Sharon. Lieberman worked effectively to save the water system from dire straits. He initiated water-treatment projects, which helped make Israel become a world leader in the field, and he legislated the “Natural Gas Law” to create a more competitive energy industry.

3)Raising an Economy
In 2003, when Sharon established his second government, Avigdor Lieberman was appointed as Transportation Minister. In this role, he worked with dedication to privatize El Al Israel Airlines and the public transportation companies. Lieberman also led a restructuring of Israel’s seaports through a separation of the ports into competing private companies. He also changed the train and roadwork authorities into government companies, a plan which reduced their budget by one-fifth.

4)Working for the Voters and the State
In the 15th Knesset, Yisrael Beytenu was the first party to introduce the idea of a presidential system, pushed for a constitution and Supreme Court reform. As well, in order to stabilize the Knesset and improve government effectiveness, Yisrael Beytenu passed the law to raise the voters threshold to reduce the number of parties in the Knesset.

5)Continuing to Perform
We don’t just talk, we perform! Yisrael Beytenu with Avigdor Lieberman will continue to perform, in the government and in the 17th Knesset. We will work with vigilance to actualize the Zionist vision of a Jewish State for the Jewish people, with an assurance of safety for each of its citizens. Yisrael Beytenu will act to control crime and make punishments harsher. We will raise the level of education for our children and strengthen the growth in the Israeli economy, through encouraging foreign investment and reducing government expenditure.

6)Stopping Crime - Internally Safe, Externally Secure
Crime is the most dangerous terror for Israeli society. It undermines our confidence as parents of children and as citizens, and erodes the ability of the state to protect society. LAU missiles in Netanya are no less dangerous than Kassam rockets in Ashqelon. If we are vulnerable from within, we appear weak from without.

7)Mandatory Sentencing
This is the time to arrest crime and lock it behind bars. We need to give authorities the power to uphold the laws, to improve the police force, make punishments harsher and return law and order to the streets of our cities.

8)Calling the Law to Order
We have established a broad committee of security, law enforcement and investigation experts, to prepare a detailed operation plan to diligently fight crime. This is the time to arrest crime and lock it behind bars. We need to give authorities the power to uphold the laws, to improve the police force, make punishments harsher and return law and order to the streets of our cities.

9)Trading Spaces Moving the Border Between Us, Not Among Us
The responsibility for primarily Arab areas such as Umm Al-Fahm and the “triangle” will be transferred to the Palestinian Authority. In parallel, Israel will officially annex Jewish areas in Judea and Samaria. Israel is our home; Palestine is theirs.

10)A New Citizenship Law
In order to enjoy the full rights of an Israeli citizen, one must also take on responsibilities. We will work to enact a citizenship law, which will require all Israeli citizens to pledge allegiance to the State and perform military or alternative national service.

11)Upgrading Education - Making Teaching a Career
We are dedicated to ensuring the best teachers for our children. A good teacher is a teacher for life. With proper policy and schedule changes, as well as incentive bonuses, we will see a marked improvement through out the country.

12)Encouraging the Teachers
We will develop a merit incentive system for teachers, based on the improvement of their students.

13)Rewarding the Extraordinary
Those who excel deserve more. When a student excels, society benefits. Students from the periphery who excel will receive full academic scholarships for university.

14)Providing Zionist, Value-Based Education
We will work to enact a value-based education plan, focusing on the blossoming of Jewish and Israeli culture and strengthening Zionist values and patriotism.

15)Strengthening Growth by Increasing Competition
Competition is good for all of us and good for the general economy. We will continue to privatize government companies and create an oversight committee to monitor their management.

16)Extracting the Potential of Our Economy
The time has come for the government to take responsibility for taxpayers’ money! We will change the priorities of the national budget and encourage export as a national goal for Israel.

"For your information, these are the aims of Yisrael Beitenu - Which of these do you have a problem with?"

He couldn't possibly answer all that - you should have asked him if there was anything he agreed with - it would have been much shorter, thus increasing the possibility that he'd be able to reply.

"1)Bringing the Zionist Dream to Life"
- having suffered many of his posts, how can you countenance (good word, that) his NOT objecting to it?

Interesting to witness here tsam's double standards (ie antisemitism):
- shocked by Safed rabbi for not wanting Jews to sell their homes to ethnic Arab
- indifferent to Fatah voting death sentence laws for Arabs in Judea Samaria to sell their land to Jews.

Personally, both events shocked me although death penalty to enforce "Judenrein Palestine" is, of course, more than just racism: it is outright nazism.

Double standards are a sure sign of antisemitism.

Ray, enacting laws to prevent any Jew to settle in a hypothetical 'Palestinian' state is not proof enough of wanting a "Judenrein Palestine"?
What would then convince you? Mass-murdering so-called settlers? How long do you think it would take once the Israeli army withdraws from the area?
