"For the last 20 years, the IDF has not included a serious threat from Egypt in its operational plan"

Oh, yes. We know that for a fact, do we?

Poor simoneq, wishful thinking from reading Haaretz is all she's got, now!

"Western intelligence in general and Israeli intelligence in particular did not foresee the scope of change in Egypt"

Sure - and the Pope ain't Catholic either ... You really think that with an Embassy there and with the examples of Eastern Europe - not to mention South Africa and Iran - that no-one was thinking about this?

By the way, Tunisia was not a threat to Israel and is still not a threat. Nothing changed in that respect. Why would it be different with Egypt?
Egypt needs peace to prosper because both its greatest assets are threatened by unrest and war. If there is a change, it will be as with Turkey, progressive, and easy to cope with.

Egypt made peace with Israel but was never an ally of Israel, so nothing changes there. Israel coped with Turkey, who was an ally, and managed to do well without it. Can't say the same for Turkey... They are going into regression, islamisation and soon religious dictatorship.
Let's hope Egypt will not fall in the same trap, for the good of the Egyptian people.
