Super Tel Aviv

Lonely Planet has made Tel Aviv one of its top 10 cities of the world. It described the city as

"the total flipside of Jerusalem, a modern Sin City on the sea rather than an ancient Holy City on a hill. Hedonism is the one religion that unites its inhabitants. There are more bars than synagogues, God is a DJ and everyone’s body is a temple. Yet, scratch underneath the surface and Tel Aviv, or TLV, reveals itself as a truly diverse 21st-century Mediterranean hub. By far the most international city in Israel, Tel Aviv is also home to a large gay community, a kind of San Francisco in the Middle East. Thanks to its university and museums, it is also the greenhouse for Israel’s growing art, film and music scenes.

TLV was beaten into third place by New York and Tangiers and was followed by Wellington, New Zealand; Valencia, Spain; Iquitos, Peru; Newcastle (the one in Australia, not Geordieland); Ghent, Belgium; Delhi, India and Chang Mai, Thailand.

It makes you proud, doesn't it?

tsam,

Many of Israel's enemies would arrest the gay community if it was in their midst; they would probably flog or execute a few to teach the rest a lesson.

But it seems to me that Tel Aviv is the best place to live, whether you are gay or straight, in the Middle East. Clearly, "Lonely Planet", recognized that fact.

Lonely Planet's criteria will hardly be to everyone's taste but it is certainly as well to remember that many of Israel's enemies put gays to death and would put Israel to death, given the chance. Strangely, so many Guardianista-types (including gays) hypocritically overlook Israel's liberalism - they perform their usual somersaults in hastening to defame Isarel instead.

Anthony and Yvetta, indeed true, but let's not forget those in Israel who would -- and have -- murdered gay people (in a Tel Aviv bar last year) or threatened to murder gay people (at every pride march every year).

No, why intrude on private grief? When I go to Jerusalem, I go for a luverly hummus at Abu Shukri's, near Damascus Gate, and visit friends in Rehavia and Katamon.
Not much time to visit tho, as I spent a fair amount of time up on the Golan and kayaking on the Hasbani and Jordan, near Kfar Blum.

The end of the kayaking course is at the kibbutz. Didn't stay long there as we were on our way to banias and Maayan Baruch for some fishing.

tscum's support for gays goes well with his support for the resident child-molester.

Well, as long as you hide behind a false name, you can say anything.

Avraham, I am sure you were very traumatised by what you went through at yeshivah. Remember the golden rule: Ve'ahavta et re'echah kemocha. Aren't you even a little bit proud that Tel Aviv is up there with New York, Newcastle etc as a top city?

I wasn't traumatised enough to be ashamed of my name - which you are - coward.

Come to think of it, I don't have to know your name to be ashamed of it - so we are both ashamed of your name!
Now at least give us a good laugh - what is it?

My name is Legion. Or Rumplestiltskin. Or perhaps something else. Now why don't you sort out your traumas?
