In Haaretz, Yisrael Harel, a former leader of the settler movement and editor of their magazine Nekuda, has made the logical point that Israel is ignoring its only land reserve for housing future generations - the Negev. Could this herald a shift of opinion among settlers?

Some time ago a Mancunian gentleman wrote to the "Australian Jewish News" extolling the merits of a book by a chap called Di Bono which apparently argues that developing the Negev holds the key to peace by proving Palestinians with work. I can't remember all of the letter now - but I've never found any review of that book anywhere. Strange it hasn't been given more of an airing, whether kooky or not.
