Rabbis right to raise war in Congo

I am pleased to see that more than 50 British rabbis have written a letter (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/apr/23/victims-of-war-in-congo) warning that we must not forget the victims of the war in Congo. I wholeheartedly agree with them. Britain needs a just, liberal foreign policy that attends to often forgotten concflicts such as this one. It is precisely because I believe in such a foreign policy that I am a Liberal Democrat.

Whenever I see Harris's pic, I have the usual reaction of "oh, sweet lord, not this pompous prat again". But then I remember who he looks like, and I have to laugh (check out particularly 0:52 - 0:55):

Leonard Warren sings "On The Road To Mandalay"

Once he finds out how few Jews have voted for him, I expect Mandalay may well be where he winds up.

"Ship him somewheres east of Suez, where the best is like the worst"

Do both please keep it coming, guys, the inanity of your comments encourages people to think that if my critics are expressing themselves as you are, then I must be doing something right? Who is Leonard Warren?! Anyway, keep it coming

OK Matthew - Let's see you post on your website an appeal to people to counter the Ahava boycotters by buying Ahava products. And let's hear you say this at the hustings.

"the inanity of your comments encourages people to think that if my critics are expressing themselves as you are, then I must be doing something right?"

I am pleased to see that we are obviously getting to you. However, if only you weren't a member of such a wicked political party, I'm sure we could overlook the fact that you possess a face only a mother could love.

Given the record of the Liberal Democrats on anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, I think you have about as much chance as the BNP of convincing Jews to vote for you.

Jenny Tonge on murdering Jews

'In January 2004, while still a Member of Parliament, Tonge was asked to step down as children's spokeswoman by Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy after saying of Palestinian suicide bombers: "If I had to live in that situation - and I say that advisedly - I might just consider becoming one myself." Tonge refused to apologise: "I was just trying to say how, having seen the violence and the humiliation and the provocation that the Palestinian people live under every day and have done since their land was occupied by Israel, I could understand..." '

Jenny Tonge on Jewish conspiracies + a blood libel

'Tonge said in 2006: "The pro-Israeli lobby has got its grips on the western world, its financial grips. I think they've probably got a grip on our party." '

'In an interview with The Jewish Chronicle Tonge stated that "To prevent allegations such as these [harvesting of organs by the IDF] - which have already been posted on You Tube - going any further, the IDF and the Israeli Medical Association should establish an independent inquiry immediately to clear the names of the team in Haiti." '

Earlier this month, Baroness Tonge was vigorously defended by Lord Wallace, the Liberal Democrats’ deputy leader in the Lords.

"Who is Leonard Warren?"

Oh, for god's sake, haven't you heard of Google?

Who cares about the Congo?
The world doesn't care,
The United Nations doesn't care,
The UN Security Council doesn't care
Why not?
Simple answer - Israel is not involved.

Tikkun Olam is why we should care...... It's a Jewish concept... Might not be so well known on this website.

"Tikkun Olam is why we should care"

And the only time you people care about Jewish ideology or even consider yourselves really Jewish is when you want to attack Israel. It's just another way of suggesting that the Jewish state should be held to a higher standard than any other. In other words, it is plainly anti-Semitic.

If you really care about repairing the world how about starting with your own country. Lobbying the government to apologise to Germany for the mass-murder at Dresden would be a small start. You could then move on to getting them to apologise to Argentina, Ireland and Spain for the occupation of their nations. And how about a Nuremberg-type trial for all those individuals responsible for the countless deaths of innocents in Serbia, Iraq and Afghanistan? In other words, cultivate your own overgrown garbage heap of a garden first.

What influence has Nadhmi Auchi's Anglo-Arab Organisation had on the LibDems' Middle East policy, Matthew?

I think we should be told, don't you?

'In other words, cultivate your own overgrown garbage heap of a garden first'

I agree completely, Joshua - but that does not mean that Rabbi's do not have the right to work towards engaging problems in the wider world.

You can read my previous post about Tikkun Olam or look up the Agohozo Shalom Youth Village in Rwanda if you still believe that Jewish organisations have no place in improving the wider world.

And I assure you that my relationship with Judaism goes above and beyond my relationship with Israel. Please don't refer to me as 'you people,' it is remarkably easy to generalise over the internet... You know very little about me or what I stand for and I assure you, I am much less anti-Israel than you seem to be set on believing.
