Punjab Governor Salman Taseer assassinated in Islamabad

Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the guard had told police that he killed Mr Taseer because of the governor's opposition to Pakistan's blasphemy law.

Many were angered by his defence of a Christian woman sentenced to death.

Why should we want a 24th Muslim country, exactly? I can't remember the reason.

Thanks Jose. I've been following this. It's quite scary. I read that the mainstream media in Pakistan is pretty much towing the Islamist line as well. The message is clear: If you speak out against us, or disagree with us, you will die.

Pakistan is sliding quickly into totalitarianism, the only thing that can stop it is if people are brave enough to speak out.

A couple of other interesting pieces (behind the Times paywall so it'll cost you a quid):

Jon: It's sad to see Lebanon on that list. Worth remembering that Lebanon was intended to be the "Christian State" much as Israel was intended to be the "Jewish State".

But what about the UK? Are we headed for that list as well? According to an article in the Times at the weekend nearly 1,000,000 people have converted to Islam in Britain since 9/11, and the rate has accelerated even more since 7/7. That's in addition to immigrants from Muslim countries, and I expect we'll see plenty more from Pakistan and elsewhere if things don't improve.

My own answer: I've started going to church on Sundays. I don't really like the idea of it turning into a mosque. Is that racist by the way?

How can a religious preference be 'racist'?

The UK is going down the pan, no question about it, because of the traitors who've sold us out first to the fascist EU and then to Islamist fascists.

Pakistan, of course, has been a cesspit for many years. Just look at how they cheat at cricket: no sense of basic human honesty. At as to the benefit cheats in this country ... just look at the statistics.
