The Labour Government - with its representative Dame Susie Leather as chair of the Charities Commission - may just have made life even harder for those of us campaigning against anti-Israel Charities such as War On Want. It has replaced a retiring Commissioner by the Secretary General of Amnesty International (Amnesty is not even a Charity!)
Irene Khan has also worked more than twenty-one years at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
"Irene Khan has been Secretary General for Amnesty International, the international non-governmental organisation with members in over 100 countries, since 2001. Prior to that she worked for more twenty-one years at the UNHCR - UN High Commissioner for Refugees in a variety of roles covering operations, management and legal and policy issues. Other experience includes being a board member of the Institute for Human Rights and Business and a number of overseas development agencies, a member of several UN advisory committees and she is Chancellor of the University of Salford. In 1977 she founded the overseas development charity Concern Universal"
