When a 10-second clip on Family Guy is worth 1,000 news stories:

18 November, 2009 - 12:04 Rate this: 0 points | There have been plenty of Jewish jokes on Family Guy, and I've laughed at them all. |
18 November, 2009 - 12:06 Rate this: 0 points | But none of these Jewish jokes has been racist. I still wonder what you would have made of a Baruch Goldstein or Meir Kahane alarm clock. |
18 November, 2009 - 12:38 Rate this: 0 points | What, do you think, makes a joke about the Jews practising a voodoo religion, for example, non-racist, but this one racist? |
18 November, 2009 - 12:44 Rate this: 0 points | All religions are voodoo and the show pokes fun at all religions. This one singles out Palestinians as being terrorists. But what if it had had a Baruch Goldstein clock? Or a Meir Kahane mobile phone ringtone? Or a Daniella Weiss SatNav voice? I suspect there would be a huge geshrei and gevalt. |
18 November, 2009 - 13:01 Rate this: 0 points | The show pokes fun at all terrorists - see classic episode on bin Laden for starters. |
18 November, 2009 - 13:07 Rate this: 0 points | But you specifically pointed out the Palestinian alarm clock "gag", not any of the others. This is somewhat indicative of a certain mindset regarding the Palestinians. And I stand by what I say: If there were any gags about Goldstein, Kahane, Levinger or Weiss, there would be a huge geshrei and no doubt people in the ADL and ZOA, as well as Jewish Agency and WZO would have a full and frank exchange of view with the producers or Fox. |
2 December, 2009 - 02:01 Rate this: 0 points | I find Family Guy amusing at times although I do personally prefer South Park for its more intelligent satire and humour. However, iain is correct on this (even if it does seem he is being somewhat reactionary.) The potential outcry he described has in fact already happened, some years ago. The episode entitled 'when you wish upon a Weinstein,' was pulled from air by Fox after its production.. It was not aired until 3 years later for its potentially anti-semetic connotations.. This is despite the fact that it was written by a Jewish writer. The incident was quite possibly the inspirations for the South Park double episode, Cartoon Wars, which was a fantastic little piece of satire that perfectly undermined Family Guy. Family Guy mock all, it would only be racism if they repeatedly picked on specific groups in a malicious manner. The targets however, are varied and only picked on in a critical manner. They aim to educate about the absurdity of racism as do most allegedly 'racist' jokes. Remember the poor treatment given to David Mitchell the other week after he made a joke that was in all honesty, quite amusing. |
24 January, 2010 - 00:39 Rate this: 0 points | Probably one of the funniest clips of Family Guy I have ever seen. If I was to compile a Top-10 funny list, this one would be in it. |

Now how would you react if someone did a cartoon with a Baruch Goldstein alarm clock, which awoke people to the sound of machine gun fire and people screaming? It's easy get cheap gags out of racism, isn't it?
