Meretz UK is bouncing back!

Following our participation in the 36th World Zionist Congress in Jerusalem this summer, Meretz UK is invigorated after the summer break, and as Chair of Meretz UK I warmly invite you to join in our new programme of activities. This begins on 28th November with a talk by John Strawson on his latest book: Partitioning Palestine- Legal Fundemantalism in the Palestinian- Israeli Conflict. For more detail see our website: www.meretz.org.uk .
A Chanuka celebration is also in place and details are on the website, as well as further events which have already been scheduled for Thursday 20th January 2011 and Thursday 17th February.
Newcomers are always welcome and especially those aged under 40 who can bring fresh ideas and spirit to us. In this coming year Meretz UK also wishes to bring a presence to Manchester and when this begins there will be announcements in the press.
All this proves that the Zionist Left is still alive and well, together with other organisations which share this position. In the past and I am sure looking ahead there will be more collaboration with e.g. Peace Now UK, Jewish labour Movement and others. It is our duty to maintain that there is an alternative approach and viewpoint to that put out by the current extremely right wing and nationalistic government in Israel.

These people never DO anything, never BUILD anything, never CREATE anything. All it may mean is possibly the need for an extra volkswagen or phone-box or two, for demonstrations - at that they are good.

As long as the demonstrations (from the word 'demon')are held at convenient times, in conveniently-accessed places, and in good weather. No effort required.

Anyway, people who have chosen to live outside of Israel, should at least refrain from trying to influence policies damaging to Israel.

Israel is still trying to recover from one of the most stupid moves in the entire history of the Jewish People - the infamous and murderous Oslo Agreement, whose criminal instigators are still roaming free, and whose victims are long dead or maimed for life.

Meretz UK? In Israel, Meretz has three MKs. It seems possible that it is bouncing back in the UK. After all, it is difficult for it to go lower.
Anyway, in Israel, it is not in a position where it can change anything.
It is probably different in the UK, I guess.

To bounce anything, you have to start from some height.

Meretz have never been there. (And never will).

I do live outside Israel but don't need your permission to express an opinion as to what may or may not be damaging to Israel. If you do not have the tolerance to be open to different views from your own, you can not expect others to listen to you with respect. As for your remark about "these people do not do anything", you might stick to the facts, which are that Meretz used to be Mapam and Mapam was one of the parties that in the early years of the State of Israel predominated in nation building. This included in the Jewish Agency as well as in the first Government of the State when Mapam was the second party after Mapai.
Again it is your opinion (and not a fact) that the Oslo Agreement was "one of the most stupid moves in the entire history of the Jewish People". We are going to have to wait a while longer to see if the present government itself might do something much more stupid.

"I do live outside Israel but don't need your permission to express an opinion as to what may or may not be damaging to Israel."

Of course not: if you wish to damage me, you certainly aren't going to ask my permission first. BUT, as such, I can justifiably view you as my enemy. Fortunately, you are so puny that you can't be taken seriously.

Your harping on Mapam is true Jewish Chutzpah! What connection between you and them? They did plenty - but you (both personally, for sure, and "meretz" in general) - what have YOU ever done? Show us an achievment. Shulamit Aloni who hates Judaism with all her puny being? Yossi Sarid who talked all his political life but never achieved anything?

Mapam once had good, solid, respectable leaders. You jerks are just a 3/120 joke.

That is the most immature argument I've heard in a very long time. Kindergarten level.

See why "meretz" has only 3 places in the Knesset?

Jose it is true at the last Israeli election Meretz suffered a drop in votes but many observers thought this was because of the war in Gaza which followed shortly after the war in Lebanon. In time of war the Israeli electorate tends to swing to the right. We will not know till the next election in Israel if Meretz in Israel can stage a recovery, perhaps in a new alignment. It may well be that the present government in Israel will collapse in a short while as a result of internal divisions over making peace with the Palestinians and a block on further building on Palestinian territory in the West Bank. A lot will depend on how successful Netanyahu is in walking the tightrope between all the factions in his government.
Meretz in Israel does influence much and Meretz MKs are known for introducing progressive bills to the Knesset some of which have wide support and are passed in to law, please refer to the Meretz Israel website for more information.
I do not pretend that Meretz UK is a large organisation, but again with other similar minded organisations it does influence the Jewish population in the UK. By the way Meretz also exists in about 20 other countries and is especially active in the USA.

Mr Reiss I have reported you for ad hominem attack because of another post here. Here you are again ignoring facts and expressing your own opinion as if it was fact. Your own personal opinion is NOT necessarily true and you should be aware of the difference.
