Melanie Phillips Tells It Like It Is ........... superbly

Melanie Phillips was interviewed recently on Israeli TV. She talks about the 'pathology' of the discourse about Israel in the UK - meaning the imperviousness of much of the media and many of the opinion formers to facts and truth about Israel. And about the absence in the media of truth about the Middle East - which she blames partly on the government of Israel.

Exceptional - what many of us have been saying to and about Israel for years. Unfortunately, so far and with the exception of Ron Prosor, they just don't get it.

"What about Israeli Hasbara'" he said and she was 100% on the money - it's rubbish!

I was at a ZF meeting in London during the last Lebanon debacle and Mark Regev was there, complacently telling us how brilliantly he was handling the news. Joy Wolfe and myself disabused him and he stormed off in a huff. They just don't get it!

Mel Philips's message should be required viewing for every Jewish Brit, and everyone in the Knesset.

Brilliant Melanie!
We need to start a grass roots movement to co-opt Melanie to be President Of the Board Of Deputies and for the community to give her the support she so richly deserves.

Very good interview. Basically she is saying Israel has failed in the hasbara war as have all those who have spread its message abroad. And that, ironically, includes Melanie herself.
She mentions Haaretz as if that is the only source of info on Israel. But is that true? If Israel is in the news, invariably we see Mark Regev, Miri Eizen or the excellent Ron Prosor (God help us when he returns to Israel). Thankfully, they've stopped Raanan Gissin.
And how many times do you see the Jerusalem Post quoted in the media? At least as much as Haaretz.
She's right. Israel does itself no favours. But, honestly, in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter what the bloke or blokette on the Clapham omnibus thinks? After all, to quote from Genesis's Blood on the Rooftops:

Let's skip the news boy (I'll go and make some tea)
Arabs and Jews boy (too much for me)
They get me confused boy (puts me off to sleep)
And the thing I hate--Oh Lord!
Is staying up late, to watch some debate, on some nation's fate.

Milligramsam (and Melanie too) just forgets a little 'detail': 15 million Jews against 1.5 billion mostly brainwashed Muslims. Since some of the Jews are also brainwashed, the ratio is well over 1 to 100.
Looks like a big advantage to drown Israel's truth message in a landslide of taqiyya, as the antisemites are trying to do even on these blogs. Fortunately, here, they don't have the brainwashed idiots they are used to convince.

Another thing missing from Melanie's interview, and it's a shame the question wasn't asked: what would she do? What's her solution?
And no, it's not a question of numbers. There are 1.5 billion+ Chinese. Do they get their "winning" message across on Tibet or on their ethnic minorities?
And in the end it doesn't matter. Israel will do what it sees fit, irrespective of what this professor says or that sculptor writes. That's what grown-up states do. They don't need to be treated like they need their noses blown or shoe laces done up by concerned aunties.

Melanie really is one of the only ones who gets it. Pity the Jewish leadership in the UK is led by such spineless and intellectually flawed weaklings.

I agree with your 19.47 comment 100%. Now that I will no longer donate to UJIA (while Mick Davies is there), I'd be happy to send my money to an organisation that is set up to redress the terrible imbalance. I agree with one thing Joe Mills writes, i.e. does Melanie have a solution we can work with?

This perhaps illustrates part of the problem. Along with a small handful of Israel supporters, I was outside Ahava again yesterday. Unfortunately, the other side were (and usually are), able to field a bigger group and make a lot more noise.

Their side includes a number of young people, as well as some veteran Israel haters. Our side had no-one under 40 and most were in late middle age. Where are our young people; why are there almost always no young people from our community protesting against the PSC/ISM alliance?

Where are our young people

Working and learning normal things, I guess. While on the other side, they are busy learning hate and working on destruction.

China has only one seat at the UN despite the 1.3 billion.
Muslim countries have 50+.

Get it, Milligramsam?
