Magnificent Hendon

An obit of Lady J has just been posted on the Telegraph Online which concludes:

"The Hespedim (or eulogies) in her honour, following her death on May 7, were delivered before a crowd of 5,000 mourners on the streets of Hendon's magnificent Shirehall estate..."

Shirehall magnificent? Not an adjective I would think you could use for any part of Hendon.

"Hendon's a top place!"

Ah, yes, from all four corners of the globe the rich and famous flock to Hendon. Then again, I expect you also agree with the following:

Wonderful Widnes.
Crackling Cricklewood.
Sunny Scunthorpe.
Marvellous Margate.
Gorgeous Golders Green.

Gorgeous Golders Green certainly. We measure 'gorgeosity' on a scale of of yashrus, erlichkeit, edelkeit and menschlichkeit, with a dash of gemutlichkeit! The Shirehall estate has included magnificent people like Lord and Lady J as well as 'lehavdil' Dayan and Dayanit Ehrentreu and Rabbi and Rebbetzen Pearlman, among many other magnificant people. We judge magnificence in terms of ruchnius, not gshmius.
