The Oxfprd Union Society is a private debating club (£200 for life membership).

On Monday night there was a members-only meeting to hear Danny Ayalon, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Israel.

Someone inside the chamber shouted at him 'Itbah Al-Yahud' ('Kill the Jews')

Give it a rest dude. Go and have yourself a cold shower, take up a hobby (knitting or something). Your Superman outfit's fading and you're looking a bit silly with the beer belly popping out from under it.

Jonathan, I hope it's not one of those things Jim Callaghan described as a lie that has got half way around the world before the truth has had time to put its socks on. And it's idbah al-muslimiyoun, if we want to be accurate.

"Allegedly, Jonathan, allegedly"

This incident was reported by Danny Ayalon and there are witnesses -- so casting doubt on its authenticity is reprehensible.

But entirely in character

Those anonymous Trolls who say "allegedly" should hang their heads in shame. Cowardly hiding behind an alias does not absolve them in any way.

Danny Ayalon? That wouldn't be the same Danny Ayalon, of the fascist anti-Arab Yisrael Beiteinu Party, who had to apologise to not only the Turkish ambassador to Israel for behaving like Charlie Chaplin in the Great Dictator but also had to apologise to a Saudi Prince for making racist comments about his country? Now there's a reliable source.

Hey Jono,

What do you expect to be greeted with open arms?
We live in a country of free speech, if you don't like it, there are authoritarian states that would happily take you in.

Geographically Israel is surrounded by muslim countries and those people have a shared culture - so very unlikely you'll ever be excepted and less so ever trusted or embraced - so you may as well get used to it.

What an outrage!

And as for The Cure singing 'Killing an Arab' . . .

And to think that we only get upset at the 1.5 million collectively punished, the bulldozings, the sonic booms, the incursions, the WALL - (a WALL for God's sake) - the check points, the hundreds of killed children, the beatings, broken bones, arbitrary arrests, administrative detention, torture, settler attacks, air to ground missiles, phosphorous, flechettes, mines, watch towers, electric fences . . . . .

Let's bring a holocaust on the Palestinians I say. (oh, has someone already suggested that?)

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Jonathan. Now that the JC carries a report - which shows precisely how horrendous the antisemitism was - it will be interesting to see whether the BBC picks it up.
The comments flung about liberating the land between river and sea is of course a call for the total destruction of Israel.

Readers really should follow chambers' link to a very virulent anti-semitic website. chambers is obviously an anti-semitic supporter of this site. 70 years ago that would have been a problem.
Today? Jews live in a safe Israel, its army could probably take Britain within a couple of weeks, and as a pleasant sideline we give people of the ilks of chambers and zafarti ulcers, because they don't got nothing better to do with their lives.

Life is sure better than it was 70 years ago!

We had Raymee Jones yesterday, Avraham, posting grotesque comments c & p'd from websites as nastily antisemitic as it's possible to find. In all fairness to Moshe, he was as outraged as anybody. The offending comments have been removed.

Yvetta,
frankly, I'm surprised at the JC for allowing people like chambers and zafarti to broadcast their anti-Israeli (zaFarti) and anti-semitic (chambers) on its website. There are limits to freedom of speech; I don't have to subsidize the rope with which some would wish to hang me.

There were two oddball Presidents in 2007/8 but by and large, Oxford students are mostly sensible.

Avraham, if you don't like a free country, and free speech and thought, why don't you go move to a country run by religious fundamentalists, and if you wasn't made aware aliyah is worth more to your soul than keeping the 613 laws (so you could be doubly blessed).

Don't wear out the word you use so often (when someone disagrees with you), as you want to maintain its value and power don't you?

Avraham.

For the record, Israel couldn't take out Britain - Isreal have never fought a modern country - they would be flattened if they did.

As a son to RAF members I think I can safely say that you know nothing of war or strategy, Israel would not survive a war that went on more than a few weeks, and with a land mass and population such as Israel they wouldn't have much chance (against for example Iran with a large population). Remember what Torah teaches 'pride comes before a fall' (and if Jews in 70AD had learnt that basic lesson they wouldn't been banished from the land for 2000 years).

But do you know, I don't want to be drawn onto your war hungry patch, as I don't believe in it.

Mr Reiss makes me laugh. He really does. If Israel could beat Britain in two weeks, pace Reiss, how come it took more than four to lose against the 1500 irregulars of Hizbollah and several thousand poorly armed Hamasniks? Then of course Israel, with its F15s, F16s, Apaches, Merkavot, 155-, 175-, and 203-mm howitzers, its Golani, Givati, Tzanchanim, Nachal, Sayarot and Shayetet, and 8200, its mempeh'im, magadim, ougdonerim, its poum and various other high-level courses, couldn't see off 13-year-old Palestinians armed with no more than tyres, rocks and perhaps catapults.

zaFarti, the more you write, the more you demonstrate how little you know. Regular armies always have problems fighting terrorists and guerilla warfare. The USA in Vietnam was there for years, and didn't win.

Ther are methods for paralyzing large countries, hitting just a few selected points.

In WWII the bombing of Coventry taught Britain that hitting communications and transport centers does far more damage than hitting military targets. For this reaso the famous bombing of Dresden in Feb 1945 neglected military targets and concentrated chiefly on the centers I have mentioned above.

Anyway the question is academic - Britain doesn't appear on any list of Israel's priorities.

chambers:
"Remember what Torah teaches 'pride comes before a fall' (and if Jews in 70AD had learnt that basic lesson they wouldn't been banished from the land for 2000 years)."

- your ignorance of Judaism screams out loud with everything you write. Why don't you stick to your New Testament?

The country is crying out for more recruits for aliyah - why don't you go and make them happy (and yourself in a backward religious state), and as you seem to be blood thirsty you could also join the idf sit in a tank (like a little boy) imagining that you could take on any country and win - even more so the thousands of civilians armed with stones.

Gold.sarah has a point!

We get very upset about one person saying 'kill the jews', but no one gives a sod for jews that are actually 'killing the arabs' (and not just with a vocal outburst.
The problem in the west is that war is sanitized, and no one ever gets a glimpse into how disgusting it is - if they did, perhaps they would think twice before supporting such actions (either directly or through silent advocacy).

If you want to see what I mean, look at the TWO links below.

I have lived in Israel since 1964, served in the IDF in a specific military profession - I'd love to demonstrate my prowess on you - and served in the IDF reserves as a combat soldier for 20 years.

Now, put your money where your mouth is, miserable anti-semite: go to Gaza, and let me know when you get there.

The days of Jew-baiting are long gone; all the Jew-baiters have left nowadays is infiltrating into Jewish blogs, pretending to be someone with a 3-digit IQ, and lobbing stupid, unbacked comments around. Harmless, harmless.

moshetzarfati2 seems to doubt my authenticity as an eyewitness, on the grounds that I am using an internet alias. Ironic really, given that so does he.

In any case, as anyone who reads my blog will know, I quite clearly am a Jewish student at Oxford, and also quite obviously do not have any kind of hardline zionist agenda. I gave my account of the events at Danny Ayalon's talk at the Union faithfully.

moshetzarfati2, rather than making snide comments about my name ('Mr Smith? Does he go to many hotels,') I'd encourage you to take the time to actually look at my blog. My mother tells me it's really a rather good read.
