JC's circulation up 3.67 per cent

I sent this email to the JC's editorial team this morning. I'm sharing it with you because we are all hugely proud.

I am thrilled to be able to report that the JC's year-on-year ABC circulation figures (30/6/09-30/6/10) are up 3.67%. In June 2009,
circulation was 30,436; this June it reached 31,556 – an increase of
1,120.

Given the context of steep falls across the
industry – some national newspapers have been falling by 15% year-on-year – these
are stunningly good figures – especially without any special campaigns or
advertising. We are increasing circulation based on the best possible reason –
good solid journalism, giving readers something they don’t want to miss out
on.

It was my pre-election piece what did it ;-)
Excellent news though.

Well done, does this include the unaudited sales abroad?

Fantastic news.

Until two years ago I hadn't heard of the JC, now I make sure I pick up a copy whenever I see it on sale and am a frequent website visitor.

Compared to other British newspapers its coverage of events "over there" is second to none.

Kudos to Stephen and the rest of the staff.

Yesterday I also found out that the JC is the world's oldest continuously published Jewish newspaper, something else for you to be proud of.

Only the JTA even comes close in terms of coverage - and its website lacks the great community features that can be found here.

Unlike many other newspapers it seems that the JC is gong from strength to strength.

During a recession and with more and more people turning to on-line content this is a great achievement.

Evidently you're doing something right.

So what's the secret of your success?

Maybe more and more people are becoming disillusioned with the "MSM" and are becoming wise to the institutional bias that exists in media circles.

Or perhaps it's the firm commitment to freedom of speech.

No doubt it's a combination of these things.

Do keep up the good work!

;-)

Well done on the increased sales!
Who says the JC has gone to the right? I think it's gone to the left but I still buy it!

Good work Stephen, I reckon the Campus section has done a lot to bring aboard younger readers as well..

Keep it up... (Personally, I don't believe the JC has shifted either left or right.)

Great news, as continued growth will guarantee the future of what is not only a great newspaper but has also become an indispensable part of British Jewish life.

I'd like to think I'm partially responsible for this, even though merely a tiny little bit, as after reading a few copies in my house my friend Michael has started to buy his own copy each week. The thing is... he's not Jewish! He agrees with me, however, that the {i}JC{/i} displays no bias towards either the left or right and was especially impressed by the coverage during the General Election earlier this year. He can rarely finish the crossword, though - being Jewish gives me a definite advantage there!
