Israel On-line: Give Half An Hour A Week To Help?

There can be few more important hobbies than protecting Israel's reputation on-line (and elsewhere, I know) because some samples of the worst Internet postings that I've come across include these horrors:

A Star Of David, in colour yet, likened to a spider.
Blaming Israel for the Middle East war - a regular, that.
A fake Shul with abusive Rabbis running it.
Reading the word Zionist used as an insult.
Jews assumed to run the media/world - where? how?

...need I go on? :)

Doing searches out of curiousity using the words Jew and Israel has led me onto this hobby, so though I know robust use of the Internet (both Google and Youtube) is a newish phenomenon, please join me.

Thank you, because the rubbish currently on-line finds its way to debates off-line in the public arena, sadly, I see this frequently as I don't live in particularly well-populated Jewish area.

Yes it's appalling. The thing about the internet is that it lets you know what (some) people really think. They are much less guarded about their words when they are anonymous and don't have to account for them. Look at some of the nonsense posted on these blogs by some (e.g. Telegramsam).

Wikipedia was in an awful state - most articles relating to Israel were heavily biased towards the Arab side - although I think it's improving now. So things can change.

Worth remembering that people that post such stuff are probably a tiny minority, so the world probably isn't as bad as the internet leads you to believe!

I get puzzled about this because Google's Larry Page and facebook's Mark Zuckerberg are both Jewish (writing feeling proud). The only theories that fit the puzzle are that that they want a very open platform or are hiring the wrong people. But then maybe they want to show up the aggression that we live with.

I used to post on a website called Above Top Secret which in the past had some quite intelligent discussions about terrorism and Middle Eastern politics, but during and after cast lead it descended into naked Jew hatred. I stood up to it for a year or so but it was wearing me down so I stopped. In the end I figured if the moderators want that kind of user then they can stick their website where the sun doesn't shine.

Also another thing to remember - lots of people that post on the internet are kids!

It's difficult, but when I write another post (soon) this blog will get a new mention. For some reason, not sure, American Jewry is much more clear in its stated concerns: Pamela Geller amd Robert Spencer are assertive in admirable ways.
