The first bill to be submitted to the new Knesset has just been announced. The newly created ministry responsible for diaspora/Israeli understanding proposes establishing a second day yom tov in Israel, which will include a second Seder night. “The new law is designed to solve the huge dilemma faced by visiting diaspora Jews of how to observe the second day in Israel,” explained Matt Icha and new immigrant Joe King, joint deputy ministers without portfolio in the new ministry. “Two-day festivals will enhance Israelis’ empathy with diaspora Jewry, and improve Israelis’ quality of life by giving them another day’s holiday.”

What a great initiative. Let’s hear it for the new ministry.

Interesting. I remember, since I was a kid, my parents talking at the Seder about how Israel only needs one Seder night, because they're sure when it is, and we're not. But that can't be right!

How very apt that this decision was made today of all days!

Vivien, in these uncertain times you can't be sure of anything - and never more so than on April 1.
Chag Sameach!

Wow--I am really gullible. A few years ago, a friend left me a message to call Mr. Baer (spelled like that) and said it was very important. When I got through, asking for Mr. Baer, it was the Bronx Zoo! Apparently that's an old April fool's trick that I fell for.
