Is Stephen Pollard more supportive of the burka than the Syrian govt?

On Stephen Pollard's JC Blog, he argued that the burka shouldn’t be banned in The UK , since he wanted to retain the right to wave the Israeli flag in public. The latter, he pointed out, can offend some Muslims. Pollard's argument seemed to imply that his "waving" of the Israeli flag was somehow contingent on allowing the burka to be worn. His freedom of expressiom might be restricted if Muslim women were not "allowed" to wear the burka.

However, the attached BBC report seems to suggest that even the Syrian government wants to enforce a ban on the burka and full face veils, at their universities.

In the circumstances, should one now conclude that the UK is a haven for Islamic fundamentalists, whilst Syria is moving to a more secular stance? I suppose, Pollard's retort would be that he believes in freedom of expression, whilst The Syrian regime is a totalitarian outfit which doesn't.

Whatever the logic, one has to conclude that the editor of The Jewish Chronicle, as well as The UK government, is currently more supportive of the burka than the Syrian government.

Weird world?

Anthony,

your obsession with the burka is wearing thin already.

E N O U G H!

And stop monopolising the blogs - people who log in want to see a variety of opinions, not just one.

Av,

You can repeat your articles as much as you like.

At least, my blogs are one-offs.

Av,

You are quite within your rights to say the above post is boring, crap, etc.

Actually, I believe that it is one of the best posts that I have written.

Btw, I couldn't care less if I lose your above poll.

I never said either 'boring' or 'crap'. And I wouldn't do so even if I had thought so.

I said that the subject has been brought up by you too many times.

Av,

My previous blog about Wayne Kopping's film is also a "must read". And you will see, that I have been open-minded enough to include an article which I disagree with. Not many people do that. Do you?

Av,
I never blogged on The JC about how Syria was dealing with Islamic fundamentalism and the burka. It is, moreove relevant to compare it to Pollard's stance.

As I said, it is one of the best blogs that I have written.

Call me arrogant, but I would go further.... the above blog is one of the best, and perhaps one of the most important, that anybody has written on The JC Blog site.

Av,

You can certainly ask that question and I am pleased that you pose it.

But please understand... I couldn't care less whether people agree with my stuff or think that it is boring repetitive rubbish. It makes absolutely no difference to me.

Moreover, there is no point preaching to the converted so I really am not concerned about your blog poll.

The obvious solution here is to not comment on Tonys drivel and alleged " logic " He is perfectly happy commenting on himself and his intense love ins with Ten Per Cent Hoff Man anyways

K,
Well according to "The Avrahan Reiss" poll, the voters seem undecided:

stephenb votes against Posner
kahina votes for Posner
(telegramsam has destroyed his postal vote)
