Free Speech?

Jewish Chronicle, I appeal to you, what is this all about?

You are going far to far to appear reasonable and allowing a platform for all.

There must be a limit to so-called "free speech" and a line must be drawn.
Your moderators control the site and guidance must be given as to where to draw the line.

This is the Jewish Chronicle it is NOT The Guardian.

Someone must decide what is in the best interests of the "Jewish Chronicle".
It makes no sense to allow Jew haters a free hand to blog whatever they like on this site.

You really must moderate the comments from:-
Peter Simon
clevenson
ibrows
telegramsam

All major web sites, even The Guardian, review and moderate comments before they are published on the web. I implore you to start doing this.

Now Jon that is free speech at its best. 'Moderate comments from Peter Simon, Clevenson, Telegramsam and myself'. So it appears your not interested in just moderating offensive comments from anyone who is offensive, instead you wish to simply remove comments you disagree with, or whose comments raise issues such as the Israeli occupation you would rather continue to ignore.

criticism of the state of Israel's policies and brutal treatment of the Palestinians, does not make anyone a 'Jew hater', your approach as you have demonstrated in your comments above, is simply to discredit any criticism, regardless of the amount of evidence that underpins it, in order for you to close down the debate on the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land

I agree with Jon. It is bad enough being obliged to rebut these single digit IQ morons and self-haters on Guardian CIF and HuffPost without having to do it on the JC as well.

It's not a question of 'free speech'. It is about the respect due from the JC for those of us who devote hours of unpaid time to fighting the delegitimisation.

Jonny

No state is above criticism, and in this regard Israel is like every other state, it is not a 'special case'. Criticism is not about 'delegitimising' Israel, merely highlighting the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

Like i said to Jon, you cannot simply close down the debate by claiming its 'delegitimisation', this is nonsense. These tactics of your belong in a authoritarian state, dictating what can and can't be said about Israeli state policies, who do you think you are?

ibrows, you do not simply criticize a particular policy or government - you engage in an obsessive campaign to delegitimize Israel altogether. This has to stop, and it is a joke the JC entertains people with your transparent agenda.

they should honour you too

Its only difficult for those of you to comprehend that live in the one-dimensional, ''Israel is always right and morally superior'' world. I am merely representing the realities of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, and using evidence to challenge your worldview that is not based on reality. The injustice and suffering that the Palestinians face everyday at the hands of the Israeli state is clear for all who don't avert their gaze and live in total denial

Jon can't be moDerated or banned -- not that I want that-- because his brother is communal pr guru and confidante of chief rabbis Shimon Cohen. Jonathan won't be moderated or barred -- and no one wants that -- because of his zf role. It be much more than Stephen pollard's job's worth if Jonathan started screaming and screaming.

I'd rather be given the opportunity to challenge people's views and preconceptions than have them silenced. If they don't post here they'll just post elsewhere.

As I've said elsewhere I tend to just skip over posts by ibrows and clevenson as they rarely have anything original or interesting to say.

Unfortunately it's the internet and we don't get to pick and choose. I don't think we should expect the JC to filter out what we read - otherwise the danger is that one day it'll be our views that get censored (which happens already elsewhere).

It's fine as it is.

Just please stop closing topics prematurely when there's an interesting conversation going on.

Saying that I did report as offensive an ibrows blog the other day comparing Israelis to Nazis. I thought that went too far. The mods removed it.

I did not compare Israelis to Nazi,

Please contextualise and don't misrepresent my comments.

I was talking in relation to Lieberman's policy of advocating the transfer/expulsion of Israeli-Arabs to a new Palestinian state. I stated this is clearly ethnic cleansing, as it aims at expelling Palestinians from Israel, simply for being Palestinian. This is beyond all doubt.

Secondly, i stated that this ethnic cleansing is disgraceful, just as the Nazi policy of ethnic cleansing was disgraceful, as they were expelled simply for being Jewish.
