Did someone say construction freeze?

As Daniel Levy said at an excellent Jewish Book Week debate on Israel and the Palestinians on Sunday night, the "nod and a wink" policy of building in the West Bank continues, despite the moratorium. According to reports the fig-leaf in Israel's fascist-fundamentalist-fig-leaf government, Ehud Barak has approved 112 new apartments on the West Bank.
And this at time when Israel and the Palestinians are due to restart proximity talks.
Israel is acting against itself.

Akiva, you must be one of those self-hating Jews who want Israel's demise.

I'm one of those people who fail to see how Jews having children and building extentions on their houses will crush the state of Israel.

Israeli Arabs are expanding their "illegal settlements" in Israel though. Given most of them are antagonstic towards the State itself, I'd consider that a far scarier proposition.

Still the best news we've heard in a while, so lovely to see Peace Now up in arms over it too! Baruch HaShem!

Akiva, given that it is impossible for Arabs to get planning permission and no new Arab towns have been built in Israel since 1948, it isn't surprising that they are building "illegally". But we aren't talking about Israel, we are talking about the West Bank and East Jerusalem galut. And if those areas won't become part of the Palestinian state, you can kiss Israel goodbye.
