She promotes a message of peace and coexistence.

Seems like a good excuse to get out of performing for the ZF . If I were a journalist, I'd want to see evidence of death threats or at least get a few answers from the police. Phone calls, letters, emails can all be traced or monitored and the Israeli rozzers for all their faults (someone nicked the chief of police's mobile from his car) are very good at tracing this kind of thing. Has there been an investigation? Any arrests? It's all strange to say the very least.

Again, no proof of any threat. Maybe she just wants to get out of performing for the ZF. And the Jerusalem Post is just picking up the story here and re-reporting it.
How were the threats made? By phone? By letter? Email? Personal? The Israeli police are very good at tracing this sort of thing. Are they investigating? Have arrests been made? Alleged death threats didn't stop Mira Awad from performing in the Eurovision, so why now?

Does the ZF's insurance cover her pulling out?

Interestingly, the show's producer was on Israel's state-run Reshet Bet radio on Saturday saying he had received threats -- from Jews not happy that an Arab was performing. This gets more and more peculiar.

Seems like a good excuse to get out of performing for the ZF .The threats were allegedly by phone but the police haven't found anyone yet. Hmm. She promotes a message of peace and coexistence.

Unlike the ZF, then.

Just spotted this in the Jerusalem Post:

"Arab Israeli singer and television personality Mira Awad on Saturday denied reports in the Israel media that she withdrew from the UK Zionist Federation’s Israel Independence Concert in London because of death threats against her and her family. She said she asked to be dropped from the concert because it was set for Israeli Independence Day.

Though a press release from the Zionist Federation on Friday said Awad’s cancellation was due to threats on her life and several Israeli media outlets carried the same report, a message posted by Awad on her Facebook page on Saturday told a different story."

Sounds like someone's been telling porkies. I wonder who gave the story to the JC in the first place.

Any comments, Jonathan?

I knew it. The whole story about "death threats" just didn't have a ring of truth to it. It had so many holes, it looked like Emmenthal. Shame on the JC for buying into it without first checking.

This is from Mira's Facebook page

The minute I heard about this concert, I asked Ofer to cancel my participation, out of consideration for the complexity of this date for me. Ofer understood my emotions for the subject, and admitted he had done wrong in scheduling the show without thinking of the re-percussions, and immediately started working on cancelling my participation out of respect for my request. It took time and lot's of explanations but he managed to do it.

This whole story is beginning to reek of the agendas of spin...

The whole reeks of something, DLE. I am shocked the Jc fell for it without checking. Perhaps the JC will learn from this.

Somehow I doubt it... Not whilst supposedly 'trustworthy' organisations are intent on spoon feeding them warped versions of an event.

Come back Geoffrey Paul/Ned Temko all is forgiven. William Frankel and old man Kessler must be spinning in their graves.

I see the JC hasn't updated its story and the ZF has retracted its claim about death threats.

Thankfully, the JC has updated its report on the non-existent death threats.

The ZF hasn't retracted though. On the contrary, they've posted the fabricated death threats story on their website this morning.

Oh, and they also need to proof-read the caption for the new poster.

Come on, Jonathan. Where have you been hiding?

Perhaps, Ben, we should rename his thread "The Mendacity of the professional Zionists". Where's there a George Garai when you need one?

This would never have happened under George Garai and Stephen Roth, z"l. And if they got something so spectacularly wrong, they would at least have the cajones to admit it.

It's a very sad case. Especially so since Mira Awad has retracted her original statement about telephone threats made to her.

However, I hope you have a great Independence day celebration Jonathan.
