Can The English play football?

Is it really a national disgrace, to accept the fact that kicking a football, is just not the sort of thing that an Englishman does well?

We might be able to bomb Dresden. And we might be able to fight a fair to middling campaign in Iraq.

But when it comes to scoring goals in international competitions, there comes a time, when a sensible nation accepts its limitations and actually comes to terms with the fact that the team managed to get to the last 16.

And that surely, ain't so bad?

After all it could have been far worse. Like Venezuela, we might never have even qualified.

In the 11 world cups since 1966, England has only reached the quarter finals 4 times and the semis once.

In 1974, 1978 and 1994 England did not even qualify for the tournament.
