Borderline behaviour

Don’t be surprised that yesterday Israel refused entry to three of the Palestinian firefighters who had helped fight the massive Carmel fire and were returning for a ceremony to honour their bravery. You can read the story here

Having been subject to an aggressive three-hour interrogation on my way to covering a good-news story about a new school in the Galil, I can vouch for the cackhandedness of Israel's border police.

Whether it’s in its airports or at border posts, Israel urgently needs to address the bureaucratic failures that lead to these embarrassments. Maybe we’ll have to wait until Bibi gets strip-searched.

Good luck, mate. You are going to be accused of all sorts of nastiness because of this.

Seems like a fair complaint to me. And I don't see why Orlando would be "accused" of anything, since this post isn't in any way offensive.

Unlike this or this, which most definitely are.

I would like to read Orlando's good news story though. Where can I find it?

Matt, I was pre-empting the usual stuff around here. Not sure why you pointed me to other posts, tho.

You seem to know a lot about the "usual" stuff since you've only been posting here a week or so.

Been lurking have we? Or just learned to type?

One week here is enough to learn about the usual stuff, Matt. One doesn't have to be Einstein to see who is obsessive, who is offensive, who suffers fro keyboard Tourettes, who is repetitive, who says what to whom, who has a sense of humour, who doesn't, etc.

And the reason for linking to other posts was to demonstrate the kind of attacks on Israel that get an angry reception. Since you're apparently new here I thought I'd help you out.

Luckily the nasty piece of work that posted those blogs no longer seems to be around! Maybe he took my advice and changed his name. He never did apologise to the people he'd libelled though...

I was called fat once, and I'm 5'5" and 8.5 stone, and I didn't bother to respond, however I've not yet been accused of releasing resistant rats in East Jerusalem.

I don't understand why, when this has only just appeared, Joe Millis was able to comment on it on the 15th December. Perhaps someone on the JC staff could explain this anomaly.

I agree with Orlando and Matt that there is much useless trouble caused at the border.
Administration in Israel is in much disrepute and stupid incidents like this one should not have happened, if treated correctly.
These guys came to help and here is how they were treated. If the government has only a bit of self-respect, it should give a special honour to these goodwill people, the more so since they came from the other side of the green line.
I hate to see an administration that cannot even communicate correctly.
