An Open Letter to Peter Oborne and Channel Four

Dear Mr Oborne

I read that "on Monday night, Channel 4’s Dispatches programme will focus on what it calls “one of the most powerful… least transparent lobbying groups in the UK”, the pro-Israel lobby."

http://thejc.com/comment/comment/21825/exposed-dispatches%E2%80%99-preju...

Apparently you insinuated "that a cabal of wealthy Jewish businessmen secretly fund the pro-Israel lobby."

I am appalled that I did not get a letter from Hardcash Productions inviting me to take part in your Dispatches programme. I am just as entitled to be defamed by Channel 4 as any other Israel advocate! What happened to my equal rights under OFCOM's Code of Conduct? This shameful discrimination is your loss and shows your naiveté when it comes to the nefarious political influence that the UK branch of the Global Zionist Conspiracy (GZC Inc) exerts over the UK government. I shall be taking this to the European Court of Human Rights and consulting with my legal team (Mr Carter and Mr Ruck) regarding your inference that I am neither wealthy, Jewish nor a businessman nor even a cabal - not even a cabalette! Such an inference brings my name into disrepute and has the most severe reputational consequences, not least for my standing with my good friends Mr Warren Buffett and Mr Roman Abramovich. Both have already been on the phone enquiring as to whether I had received a letter from you.

There are many other ways besides cabals of inveigling Her Majesty's Government into doing Israel's bidding, Mr Oborne.

I'll let you into a secret - completely off-the-record. The reason David Miliband has been so pro-Israel is that the ZF threatened to have Jackie Mason back for its Yom Ha'atzmaut party this year. That's why Miliband was so quick to veto the Goldstone Report at the UN General Assembly and that's why he has spoken out so often to assert Israel's right to defend itself.

Investigative reporting? Feh! I doubt you could investigate a matzo ball if it was sitting in your spoon......

Sincerely
Jonathan Hoffman

Perhaps the directors didn't contact the ZF because it's an irrelevance these days. But seriously, who does fund BICOM and the JLC?

Dear Channel 4

PS - I am prepared to stop legal proceedings against you if you let me do your Christmas broadcast this year instead of that nice Iranian chappie who you had last year (the one who was so convincingly re-elected a few months ago).

Legal proceedings against C4? I bet they are quaking in their boots. I'm sure the programme will be quite sensationalist and shocking, but I'll ask again: who does fund BICOM and the JLC?

I would be amazed if some wealthy businessmen, Jewish and gentile, did not fund "the pro-Israel lobby" (is there only one?). Funding lobbies is often good business if a company has interests in a country. It is also good business not to let everybody know who you are funding and for how much.

Funding a political lobby is not the same as bribing a politician and that is one reason why lobbies exist, to act as buffers and communication facilities between business and politics.

Even where the lobby is directed at gaining political influence or supporting favoured policies rather than business advantage it is not necessarily evil, unless of course the objectives are strongly disliked by an opposing group whose views will obviously be somewhat biased.

In this case perhaps we should wait to see the programme before getting hysterical about its presumed content and possible (even probable!) bias.

(I expect rude comments about my use of the emotive term "hysterical", it is intended to offset the use of other emotive terms such as "cabal" with its supposedly sinister connotations)
