The head of Amnesty in Finland says that Israel is a 'scum state'.

In London Amnesty last night provided the venue for Ha'aretz journalist Gideon Levy who vilified Israel and falsely and absurdly claimed that Israelis meet all criticism by accusing the critics of antisemitism. The chairman Jon Snow was a model of sycophancy and obsequiousness.

Amnesty London has hosted a succession of demonisers in recent months eg Ben White, Jeff Halper and the Christisons.

Gita Sahgal, the former head of Amnesty International’s gender unit, has described Amnesty’s leadership as suffering from “ideological bankruptcy” and “misogyny”.

Amnesty puts out untruths in its "reports" about Israel

'On my Jewish Chronicle blog I described a photograph taken on 14 August
2010 at the pro-Ahava demonstration as "fraudulent". I also wrote "That
photo was 'Photoshopped' -- and it is bloody obvious that it was
'Photoshopped' I do not discuss but I do identify lies and fraudulent
Photoshopped photos."
These statements were entirely without foundation and I had made no
attempt to check their accuracy. I accept that the photo was absolutely
genuine and had not been tampered with in any way. The photographer,
David Hoffman, is a well known and respected photojournalist and I
apologise to him unreservedly for my hasty and unfounded comments and
for the distress and embarrassment caused.'

Jonathan, give it up.

Well you've got more front than harrods, I'll give you that. Not only is your solicitor's letter induced apology all over the anti-Zionist blogosphere (proving what a liability you are and what a Recruiting sergeant you are for them) but you post more questionable stuff for your election campaign. Chapeau.

T-Scum: I repeat, since when do you give a flying **** about any 'election campaign', unctious hyopocrite

Zaire: ever hear of "off-topic"?

Trust you to choose the name of a country which was such a basket case that it had to change its name.

Will you be changing your name to Democratic Republic of the Congo in a similar rebranding exercise?I think it might help with your communication problems ....

I am 95% sure you are Tsarfati - who was banned - under a new name

Jonathan, you were also 100 per cent sure that the pic was photoshopped. Says a lot about your judgement. And anyway why are you in favour of banning? Kind of puts a dampner on any posting about your freedom of speech being denied, don't it?

I don't think you get it, Joshua. If I were anti-Zionist or Antisemitic I'd want Jonathan to stay in place because he would be helping my cause. That's why I want him and his acolytes removed because they are tarnishing Zionism.

telegramsam makes the JC website a hostile place to visit.

He/she/it is consistently impolite, offensive and derails every single thread with attacks against Jonathan Hoffman.

Very sad.

An acolyte writes.... If I'm rude, what's that make Jonathan or Joshua? The person making this a hostile place is Jonathan with his outrageous claims and self-serving blogs.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has been banned many times under many different names. Why does the JC continue to give a podium to his offensive and pointless hogwash?

His vendetta against Jonathan Hoffman is tired and boring and he has all the charm and wit of a pebble.

No telegramsam, the only person that is ruining the atmosphere on this website is you.

I have watched you defame and attack him on a nearly daily basis. It's disgusting. I don't know if this all politically motivated (is this revenge because he recommended people vote Conservative at the last election?) or just pure spite. Whatever the reason, it's utterly reprehensible.

You know perfectly well how hard Jonathan works to stand up for Israel in Britain, which is an incredibly difficult and thankless task in the current climate. He has also tried his level best to distance himself from far-right groups, and you are well aware that he does not share any of their beliefs or methods and does not invite or appreciate their support. That you should undermine that with such petty, mean-spirited harassment says a great deal more about you than anybody else.

Matt, I didn't know he endorsed the Tories. I bet he felt a bit of a fool when Dave called gaza a prison camp and when Hague attacked israel over the flotilla. That just shows how bad he is for the ZF. He may stand up for israel, but the way he goes about it gives zionism's enemies such an easy path.
Standing with the EDL/BNP shows poor judgement and opens him and the ZF to claims of collusion. That's why he's a liability.

For that you will even miss your precious football

What a nasty, vindictive piece of work you are, T-Scum.

For immediate release

Zionist Federation condemns head of Finnish Amnesty's description of Israel as "scum state"

In a letter to Salil Shetty, the Secretary General of Amnesty International, the Zionist Federation has responded to the derogatory remarks by the head of Amnesty Finland , who described Israel as a "scum state". The full text of the letter is as follows:

To: Salil Shetty , Secretary General, Amnesty International

25th August 2010

Dear Mr Shetty,

I am writing on behalf of the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland to express our outrage at the comments of Frank Johansson, the head of Amnesty Finland , who branded Israel a “scum state,” as reported in the Jerusalem Post.

Writing in his blog, Johansson wrote on Monday that “a friend of mine who works in Israel was visiting [and] while piling wood in the shed, we got to [talking about] his favourite topic. [After] several years of residence in the Holy Land, he has come to the conclusion that ‘ Israel is a scum state.’ Based on my own visit[s], which occurred during the 1970s and for the last time in the 1990s, I agree.”

The precise phrase that he used is apparently a highly derogatory term in Finnish, and is frequently translated as “scum,” “scum bag” or “douche bag.” The blog clearly provides readers with Johansson’s title, “director of the Finnish branch of Amnesty International”, thus associating his deplorable comments with Amnesty. For him to claim that this is a personal view is not acceptable. It is no less appalling whether he said it in his official capacity or otherwise. That Amnesty is represented by someone with such a view is disgraceful.

Quite apart from openly displaying prejudice against the world’s only Jewish state, Johansson’s statement is at odds with the facts. Newsweek this week rated Israel the 22nd best country in the world, and the best in the Middle East . A recently released Gallup poll published in Forbes magazine contended that Israel is the world's eighth happiest country.

We call on you to condemn Johansson’s statement, and to freeze links to Amnesty Finland until Johansson resigns. We further call on you to end all of Amnesty’s actions in demonising Israel .

Yours sincerely,
Jonathan Sacerdoti

Director of Public Affairs
Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland

Jonathan,

You can't really attack the whole of Amnesty International on the basis of one individuals comments, they are not necessarily representative of the whole group.

I mean, I don't take your EDL-friendship, and personal abuse you give out to anyone you disagree with, as representative of all the ZF members or the whole organisation.

'Israel the 22nd best country in the world, and the best in the Middle East'

Not for the Palestinians, i guess Newsweek didn't want to speak to Israel's Palestinians or those in the occupied Territories and spoil its lovely survey which totally denies the daily realities of the Israeli occupation

Sorry, this 'sanctimonious creep,' is about to 'carp from the sidelines,' apologies in advance.

Jonathan.. How does it make sense for you to criticise Amnesty for calling Israel 'scum,' and then repeatedly call somebody who has taken the time to respond to you 'T-scum.'

Double standards once more!
