A Peace Partner?

The ringleader of the 1985 hijacking of the Achille Lauro ship will be expelled from Italy to Syria, the Associated Press reports. Youssef Magied al-Molqui has served only 23 years of his 30-year jail sentence for his role in the hijacking and murder of wheelchair-bound Jewish passenger Leon Klinghoffer.

Italy’s Attorney General Gianfranco Pagano said that Molqui was to be flown on Saturday from his holding cell in Sicily to Rome and then onto Damascus.

Molqui's claim that he should not be expelled due to his marriage to an Italian citizen was rejected by an Italian court. Nor did his claim to being stateless - he is a descendant of Arabs who fled pre-state Israel - prevent his expulsion order.

He escaped in 1996 while on leave from prison, but was recaptured and returned to jail.

Molqui and three other members of the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF) terrorist group hijacked the Achille Lauro cruise ship off the coast of Egypt in 1985. The hijackers demanded the release of 50 terrorist prisoners in Israeli jails.

During the incident, the hijackers also murdered wheelchair-bound American citizen Leon Klinghoffer and threw his body overboard. Klinghoffer, 69, was singled out because he was Jewish.

A second hijacker, Ibrahim Abdel-Atif, was released from prison last year and is also fighting a deportation order. Abdel-Atif also has no citizenship, as his country of birth, Lebanon, refuses to grant citizenship to descendants of Arabs who fled pre-state Israel.

The Palestinian Authority chairman, Mahmoud Abbas, considered a “moderate” by the United States and Israel, has admitted to masterminding the Achille Lauro hijacking. The appeal by Abbas to rescind the expulsion order was rejected by the Italian authorities.

Please read the above sentence again.

Now do any of you lefties out there still see Abbas as a genuine peace partner?

Not forgetting:-
Mahmoud Abbas
Relations between Zionism and Nazism : 1933 – 1945
The title of his "doctorate" thesis.
As far as I am concerned, he is just a terrorist in a suit!"

for goodness sake, jon, check your facts!

you're confusing israel's peace partner with someone of a similar name who died 6 years ago!!

this is what happens when you consistently fail to provide sources (links) for your quotations …

Jon_i_Cohen: The Palestinian Authority chairman, Mahmoud Abbas, considered a “moderate” by the United States and Israel, has admitted to masterminding the Achille Lauro hijacking.

see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achille_Lauro#Hijackers

… the hijackers' leader, Abu Abbas …
Abu Abbas left the jurisdiction of Italy and was convicted in absentia. In 1996, he made an apology for the hijacking and murder, and spoke out in favor of peace talks between Palestinians and Israel; the apology was rejected by the U.S. government and Klinghoffer's family, who insisted he be brought to justice. Abbas was captured in Iraq in 2003 by the U.S. military during its 2003 invasion of Iraq.
He died in U.S. custody March 8, 2004.

The doctoral thesis in question was written in 1982 and in Soviet Union, some time before Oslo. People can change their mind over time. We have already witnessed that.

Abbas' thesis contained a number of Holocaust denial and even reversal statements. But the fact is that he didn't really reject what he wrote then and even justifies them under a thin Taqiyya veil:

"When I wrote The Other Side…we were at war with Israel," Abbas said. "Today I would not have made such remarks…Today there is peace and what I write from now on must help advance the peace process."

Then he denied the denial, in an interview in Haaretz.

Anyway who would care about his opinions, if he was a real peace partner. But his constant rejection of direct talks shows that he is too weak to go against his people's opinion and keep his seat.

as soon as they get "peace" then they will have to hand over land to the "others" which goes against the Zionist philosophy surely?

You mean like Israeli did when they made peace with Egypt? Did that go also against the Zionist philosophy? It seems that your certainties are already proven wrong by facts, but that you prefer your certainties to facts.

hearing something quite obviously inherently unbelievable, and then repeating it without checking, is at best bigotry and at worst racism

still no admission or apology from jon_i_cohen for his blatant libel of pa president mahmoud abbas …

people hear obviously unlikely things about jews which they want to believe (eg that british jewish students serve in the israeli army on holiday, that jewish volunteers in haiti steal human organs, and the standard blood libels) and repeat them without question

(and the arab population of israel would be far higher if arabs hadn't believed their own radio broadcasts about jewish rape and mutilation in 1948 … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkhSHiwzaIY)

jews shouldn't behave in the same way
