63,000 pounds for a Turkish life.

Israel has proposed paying compensation to relatives of Turks it killed during a raid on a Gaza-bound ship, in exchange for Ankara's help in indemnifying the Israeli navy against lawsuits, officials said today.

The offer, broached by envoys in Geneva over the weekend, included measures to improve relations between the countries, but appeared to have fallen short of Turkey's demand that Israel formally apologise for the murder of the nine pro-Palestinian activists in May.

The draft offers Turkey $100,000 (£63,000) each to families of the men shot dead by Israeli marines during altercations aboard the converted cruise ship Mavi Marmara, and an Israeli expression of "regret" over the incident, Israeli diplomatic sources said.

So Israel admits guilt, eventually, but only a little?

'murder'? what planet do you come from? How much would Turkey have paid the families of the Israeli soldiers if the IHH terrorist thugs had managed to kill amy of them? Zippo.

Any compensation or any apology is contremptible.

How important are the ties with Turkey that Israel has to pay blood money to a state which plays kiss-kissy with Iran and Syria.

Let Turkey come crawling to Israel - this is unseemly.

Apart from Turkey ties being vitally important to Israel (non-Arab state in a Arab area, common military goals, that sort of thing), I think a better question is how much would Turkey pay to the families of those Kurds it kills on a regular basis?

It is not contemptible but an admission that the whole business of intercepting and heading off ships on the high seas needs to be handled differently. Clearly after this and other incidents which Turkey viewed in an extremely unfavourable light, it was time to let diplomacy play its proper part. I am referring to e.g. Olmert not warning the Turkish PM on his visit to Turkey the day before the Gaza War that it was going ahead; the public humiliation of the Turkish Ambassador to Israel by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Israel etc.

The whole issue of the Kurds struggle for their own homeland dates back to exactly the same era as the Balfour declaration. The Kurds were promised that at the Versailles Peace Conference after WW I their plight would be sympathetically dealt with. Their big problem, however, was the fact that "Kurdistan" overlapped areas of Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq and the allies Great Britain and France had conflicting interests in three of these countries. You may be aware that in the early years after Israel was established, it was her actively pursued policy to help the Kurds in their struggle. Later when Israel and Turkey became much closer, the precondition for continual improvement in their relations was that Israel should cease supplying arms and military training to the Kurd.s

Instead of apologizing to the aggressor, why not support the "freedom struggle" of the Kurds? Send them anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles would help Turkey understand better what Israel is against in the area.
And a better comprehension of Israel by the clown Erdogan is a first step to improved relationships.

And don't forget: double standards are a sure sign of antisemitism.

These men were members of the IHH, an antisemitic jihadist group which supports terrorism. france linked the group to the attempted blowing up of Los Angeles airport, and the IHH supports attacks on British troops in Afghanistan. It is also a supporter of the antisemitic terror group, Hamas.

Israel should not pay for defending itself against these terrorists. Shame on you "newsmax" - you are a supporter of antisemitic fascists.
